Shri Narendra Singh Tomar chairs 91st Annual General Meeting of the ICAR Society

The Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar has said the Government will soon register 10,000 new Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) in order to promote cooperative farming.

Addressing the 91st Annual General Meeting of the ICAR Society, he said budgetary provision has been made to provide each FPO a sum of Rs. 15 lakh for all farming related activities ranging from sowing, harvesting to distribution and marketing.

Indian coast guard off shore patrol vessel ICGS Varad commissioned

The Indian Coast Guard’s Offshore Patrol Vessel ICGS Varad has been commissioned today. It was inducted into service by Union Shipping Minister Mansukh Mandaviya at a function held in the Chennai Port, in presence of Director General of the Coast Guard, K. Natarajan.

The ship Varad will be based at Paradip in Odisha, under the operational control of the Coast Guard North Eastern Region.

UP, MP, Bihar send most patients out for treatment under PM-JAY

Uttar Pradesh (UP), Madhya Pradesh (MP) and Bihar are among the states that send maximum patients out to other states for treatment under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), popularly referred to as the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

PM-JAY provides every poor family with an annual cashless health insurance cover of ₹5 lakh.

In MP, for instance, up to 10 per cent of all claims are sent outside the state. MP has sent at least 11,765 patients to Gujarat, while UP has sent 4,288 patients to Uttarakhand, and 3,572 patients to Maharashtra. Bihar, in turn, has sent 3,258 patients to UP.

India, Myanmar exchange 10 agreements in various fields including energy, infrastructure

India and Myanmar exchanged 10 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in different various fields including energy, infrastructure, health, transport and communication and conservation of Tigers and other Wildlife.

The MoUs were exchanged following detailed talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting Myanmar President U Win Myint in New Delhi.

India is the fifth largest trading partner of Myanmar and the current bilateral trade stands at US $ 1.7 billion.

Marathi to be made compulsory in schools

The Maharashtra state government passed the Maharashtra Compulsory Teaching and Learning of Marathi Language in Schools Bill, 2020.

The bill makes Marathi a compulsory subject in all schools across boards, including the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), IB and Cambridge, from the forthcoming academic year.

Industrialist Ratan Tata is appointed as the chairman of the advisory council of Mumbai University. Tata was nominated by Maharashtra Governor and Chancellor of Universities in the state Bhagat Singh Koshyari.

Tata was appointed for his vast experience in education, entrepreneurship and employment creation. He has navigated the companies to greater heights in India and globally as the head of the Tata Group.

RBI lifts ban, allows Bandhan Bank to open branches

The Reserve bank of India removes the restrictions placed on Bandhan Bank, allowing it to open new branches without prior permission. The RBI came up with some regulatory conditions & directed the bank to order about 25% of the total banking outlets to be opened in rural areas where banking facilities are not available.

RBI introduced 12 indicators for calculating India’s growth: RBI Working Paper

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has came up with a new method of calculating India’s growth through a Working Paper titled “Nowcasting Indian GDP growth using a Dynamic Factor Model” under the RBI Working Paper Series, introduced in March 2011.

The Paper is co-authored by Soumya Bhadury, Saurabh Ghosh and Pankaj Kumar. The paper introduces the Dynamic Factor Model of calculating Gross Domestic Product (GDP), using 12 indicators.

Government will host ‘Raise 2020’ Summit

The Indian Government announced to host RAISE 2020 – Responsible AI for Social Empowerment 2020 summit in New Delhi between April 11 and April 12.

The RAISE 2020 summit will be adjoined by a “Startup Pitchfest”.

The aim of the summit is to exchange ideas on the use of Artificial Intelligence for “social empowerment, inclusion and transformation” in industries such as education, smart mobility, agriculture and healthcare among others.

Mansukh Mandaviya launched OPV-6 VAJRA in Chennai

The 6th Coast Guard Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV-6) ‘VAJRA’ was launched at Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The Union Minister of State for Shipping and  Chemicals & Fertilizers Shri Mansukh Mandaviya chaired the launching ceremony.

The 6th OPV VAJRA will strengthen the efforts of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) to secure over 7500 km of vast coastline.

The OPV is equipped with two Navigation Radars with ultra-modern technology, Sophisticated navigational, and latest communication systems.

Renowned Vedic Scholar Sudhakar Chaturvedi passes away

Renowned Vedic Scholar and Gandhian Sudhakar Chaturvedi passed away in Bengaluru today. The centenarian was given the title Chaturvedi for his mastery over the four vedas. Deeply influenced by Mahatma Gandhi and Arya Samaj movement, he had ed over 50 spiritual books in four languages.
