Elias Howe Birth Day

BIRTH :

He was Born on July 9, 1819.

Elias Howe

  • Elias Howe Jr. was an American inventor best known for his creation of the modern lockstitch sewing machine.
  • Despite his efforts to sell his machine, other entrepreneurs began manufacturing sewing machines. Howe was forced to defend his patent in a court case that lasted from 1849 to 1854 because he found that Isaac Singer with cooperation from Walter Hunt had perfected a facsimile of his machine and was selling it with the same lockstitch that Howe had invented and patented. He won the dispute and earned considerable royalties from Singer and others for sales of his invention.

DEATH :

He was Died on October 3, 1867 at the age of 48.

Johnny Weissmuller breaks the “World Swimming Record”

  • Johnny Weissmuller was an Austro-Hungarian-born American competition swimmer and actor, best known for playing Tarzan in films of the 1930s and 1940s and for having one of the best competitive swimming records of the 20th century. Weissmuller was one of the world’s fastest swimmers in the 1920s, winning five Olympic gold medals for swimming and one bronze medal for water polo.
  • On July 9, 1922 Johnny Weissmuller swims the 100 meters freestyle in 58.6 seconds breaking the world swimming record and the ‘minute barrier’. He was the first to break the one minute barrier for 100-meter freestyle.

Navaly Church Bombing 

On July 9, 1995 “The Navaly church” bombing is carried out by the Sri Lanka Air Force killing 125 Tamil civilian refugees.
