Chandra Shekhar

  • He was an Indian politician who, served as the 8th Prime Minister of India, between 10 November 1990 and 21 June 1991.
  • Chandra Shekhar was a prominent leader of socialists. He played a vital role in nationalisation of banks and ending of privy purse being given to royal families.He joined Congress in 1964. From 1962 to 1967, he was a member of the Rajya Sabha. He first entered the Lok Sabha in 1967.He came to be known as a ‘young Turk’ for his conviction and courage in the fight against the vested interests.
  • Chandra Shekhar was prime minister for seven months, the second shortest period after that of Charan Singh. He also handled the portfolios of Defence and Home Affairs during this period. His government included preamble and fighting of the Gulf War of 1990–91. However, it could not introduce a full budget because Congress withdrew support during its formulation. In the spring of 1991, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi decided to precipitate a new election. Chandra Shekhar resigned the office of prime minister on 6 March 1991.

  • Affectionately known as Dada, is a former Indian cricketer and captain of the Indian national team, Currently, he is appointed as the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal and President of the Editorial Board with Wisden India. During his playing career, Ganguly established himself as one of the world’s leading batsmen and also one of the greatest captains of the national cricket team. While batting, he was especially prolific through the off side, earning himself the nickname God of the Off Side for his elegant strokeplay square of the wicket and through the covers.
  • Sourav Ganguly is one of the four members of the Indian Premier League’s Governing Council, responsible for all the functions of the tournament. He was appointed by Supreme Court in January 2016. He is also a member of Technical Committee, Indian Premier League.
  • Ganguly was awarded the Padma Shri in 2004, one of India’s highest civilian awards.
  • He is one of the most successful Indian Test captains to date, winning 21 out of 49 test matches. Sourav Gangly is the most successful Indian test captain overseas with 11 wins.
  • Ganguly was awarded with the Banga Bibhushan Award from the Government of West Bengal on 20 May 2013.
