Finance Minister has launched a mobile application named Union Budget Mobile App:

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has launched a mobile application named Union Budget Mobile App for hassle-free access of Budget documents by Members of Parliament and the general public. Union Budget 2021-22 will be presented on 1st of February which will be the first budget in the history of India in the paperless form.

  • The mobile App facilitates complete access to 14 Union Budget documents, including the Annual Financial Statement, commonly known as Budget, Demand for Grants and Finance Bill.
  • The App has been developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC)

Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Shri Kiren Rijiju launched a breakthrough Reference Material for use in chemical testing in the field of anti-doping.

  • This anti-doping Reference Material (RM) was synthesized by collaborative efforts of National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL) and National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Guwahati.
  • This Reference Material (RM), has been identified by NDTL as one of the rarely available RMs globally and would be used to strengthen anti-doping measures in all World Anti Doping Agency (WADA)-accredited laboratories.

Khadi and Village Industries Commission revived oldest Khadi institutions in Assam:

One of the oldest Khadi institutions in Assam, which remained in a vandalized state bearing the scars of Bodo insurgency for over 30 years, has been brought back to life by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).

  • The Khadi workshed at village Kawali in Baksa district of Assam, which was burnt down by Bodo insurgents in 1989, has been revived as a Silk reeling center by KVIC.
  • Weaving activities will restart at the workshed in the second week of February.

Made in India COVID vaccines despatched by India reached Sri Lanka

The consignments of Made in India COVID vaccines despatched by India have reached Sri Lanka.  This gift of COVID-19 vaccines to Sri Lanka is a part of India’s ‘Vaccine Maitri’ initiative under which India has gifted vaccines to seven other countries in the region.

  • India has also despatched consignments of Made in India COVID vaccines to Bahrain.

WHO team of 13 experts to begin their research on origins of COVID-19

World Health Organization (WHO) team of 13 experts has left the Quarantine today to begin their field work and research on origins of COVID-19 in Wuhan, two weeks after arriving in the Chinese city where the virus emerged in late 2019.

India has gifted over 55 lakh doses of COVID 19 vaccines to its neighbour countries.

India has gifted over 55 lakh doses of COVID 19 vaccines to its neighbours and extended neighbourhood since the 20th of January this year. This includes

  • 5 lakh doses to Bhutan,
  • 1 lakh to the Maldives,
  • 10 lakh to Nepal,
  • 20 lakh to Bangladesh,
  • 15 lakh to Myanmar,
  • 1 lakh to Mauritius,
  • 50 thousand to Seychelles,
  • 5 lakh to Sri Lanka
  • 1 lakh to Bahrain.

5th joint meeting of the India-Japan Act East Forum held in New Delhi

  • India and Japan held the fifth joint meeting of the India-Japan Act East Forum in New Delhi today. The meeting was co-chaired by Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla and Ambassador of Japan to India Suzuki Satoshi.
  • The Act East Forum reviewed progress of ongoing projects in the North Eastern Region of India in various areas including connectivity, hydropower, sustainable development, harnessing of water resources, and skill development.

Last surviving member of J&K Constituent Assembly, passed away

Jammu and Kashmir, Krishan Dev Sethi, the last surviving member of J&K Constituent Assembly, passed away at his Jammu residence this morning. 93- year old Sethi was a member of the Constituent Assembly which framed the Constitution of erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. He also represented Noushera Assembly segment of Jammu and Kashmir.

India is the fastest country to reach one million vaccinations in the first six days:

  •  The government today said that India is the fastest country to reach one million vaccinations in the first six days. Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said that, the United States achieved this feat in 10 days, Spain in 12 days, Israel in 14 days, UK in 18 days, Italy in 19 days and Germany in 20 days.
  • The Government said that more than 28 lakh beneficiaries have received the vaccination under the countrywide COVID19 vaccination exercise

Rajasthan has become the 5thState in the country to successfully undertake Urban Local Bodies (ULB) reforms stipulated by the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance and has thus become eligible for additional reform linked borrowing.

  • Accordingly, the State has been granted permission by the Department of Expenditure to mobilise additional financial resources of Rs.2,731crore through Open Market Borrowings.
  • Rajasthan has joined four other States namely, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur and Telangana, who have completed ULB reforms already.
