September 30 – International Translation Day

  • On September 30, based on a resolution adopted by the United Nations, the world celebrates the International Translation Day (ITD). It is observed in honour of fifth century St. Jerome, a priest from northeastern Italy, who was the first to translate the Bible (New Testament) into Latin from Greek manuscripts.

186-km rally for peace in the Red heartland

  • Around 150 people, from various States affected by Maoist insurgency will begin a 186-km long ‘Peace Padyatra’ (peace march) from Andhra Pradesh on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, will conclude in the Chattisgarh.

Telugu Bible turns 200

  • The churches in the city will be celebrating this year the 200th year of the translation of Bible from original Greek to Telugu.

IISc team finds new approaches to kill TB bacteria

  • For the first time a protein (WhiB4) that condenses the DNA of TB-causing bacteria in response to oxidative stress has been found by a multi-institutional team led by Prof. Amit Singh from Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.

Goa, Portugal ink MoU on water management

China tests three hypersonic missiles

  • China has achieved a feat of testing three types of hypersonic aircraft missiles at the same time. The tests of three scaled-down models of ‘wide-speed-range vehicles’, which can fly at from hypersonic velocity to lower than the speed of sound, were carried out.

Archery World Cup

  • India have clinched three medals at the Archery World Cup Final in Samsun, Turkey. Deepika Kumari won a bronze medal in Women’s Recurve event. Abhishek Verma had bagged a bronze medal in men’s compound event. Abhishek Verma & Jyothi Surekha Wennem won a silver in the mixed team event.
