CM Fadnavis unveils state’s new 5-year industrial policy

  • Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis unveiled the state’s new 5-year industrial policy emphasising on high-technology and employment generating businesses. The policy, which will be effective from 1st of April this year, aims to attract investments worth 10 lakh crore rupees.

Inauguration of 28 major infrastructure projects

  • Home Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate 28 major infrastructure projects of the Central Armed Police Forces, Delhi Police and other Central Police Organizations in New Delhi.

China decides to extend anti-smog measures

  • China has decided to extend anti-smog measures for a third successive winter in a bid to reduce pollution levels. The Ministry of Ecology and Environment vowed to speed up the elimination of small coal-fired heating boilers in major regions.

Hafiz Saeed-led Jamaat-ud-Dawa placed in list of banned organisations

  • Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed-led Jamaat-ud-Dawa and its wing Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation have been formally placed in the list of banned organisations by Pakistan.

Two Nobel Prizes for literature will be awarded this year

  • The Swedish Academy has said that two Nobel Prizes for literature will be awarded this year.

World Bank to provide 250 Million dollar for NRETP to boost Rural incomes

  • World Bank to provide 250 Million dollar for the National Rural Economic Transformation Project (NRETP) to boost Rural Incomes across 13 States in India. The loan will help women in rural households develop viable enterprises for farm and non-farm products.

Government fixes sugar sale quota for March

  • The government has fixed sugar sale quota for the month of March. Sugar mills can sell 24.5 lakh tonne of the sweetener in the open market in the current month. The Centre has allocated sugar quota for sale to each of the 524 mills in the country.
  • The rate was increased recently from 29 rupees per kg to help mills realise maximum revenue and clear cane price arrears of farmers.

96.5% of households in rural India have access to toilet

  • The National Annual Rural Sanitation Survey, NARSS 2018-19 has found that 96.5 per cent of the households in rural India have access to a toilet. The survey also re-confirmed the Open Defecation Free (ODF) status of over 90 per cent of villages which were previously declared and verified as ODF by various districts and States.

SCHEMES

Scheme to provide financial assistance for transport, marketing of agriculture products

  • The government has introduced a scheme for providing financial assistance for transport and marketing of agriculture products with a view to boosting export of farm commodities to certain countries in Europe and North America.
  • Under the Transport and Marketing Assistance scheme, the government would reimburse a certain portion of freight charges and provide assistance for marketing of agricultural produce.
  • It would be available for exports effected from March 1 this year to March 2020.

MOU, AGREEMENTS & CABINET APPROVALS

India signs loan agreement with World Bank

  • India signed a loan agreement with the World Bank for 96 Million US dollars for additional financing of Uttarakhand Disaster Recovery Project. The World Bank has been supporting the State Government since 2014 to restore housing and rural connectivity and to build the resilience of communities.

Agreement between India and Nepal

  • The Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee has been appointed to carry out post-earthquake reconstruction of 72 educational facilities in Nepal. An agreement in this regard was signed between Embassy of India and CBRI in Kathmandu.

NITTTRC Bhopal, Shri Vishwakarma Skill University sign MoU

  • National Institute of Technical Teacher’s Training and Research(NITTTRC), Bhopal and Shri Vishwakarma Skill University Gurugram signed an memorandum of understanding(MoU) to further strengthen the skill development facilities provided to the youth.

‘Web Wonder Women’

  • The Ministry of Women and Child Development hosted a felicitation event for Web Wonder Women, a campaign organised to celebrate the exceptional achievements of women, who have been driving social reforms via social media.
  • As many as 30 women, who were selected after an extensive research process, were honoured by the Minister for Women and Child Development, Smt Maneka Sanjay Gandhi in New Delhi, on 6th March, 2019.

  • New Delhi Municipal Council area – Cleanest small city award
  • Uttarakhand’s Gauchar – Best Ganga Town in the survey
  • Top ranked cities received a statue of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi as award for their work towards cleanliness.

Sultan Azlan Shah Cup

  • Manpreet Singh named captain and Surender Kumar will be the Vice-Captain of the 18-member Indian hockey team to play in the upcoming 28th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. It will be held in Ipoh, Malaysia.
