What is NRA – National Recruitment Agency?
Starting with the basic question, simply put, NRA is a testing agency which would be responsible for conducting the preliminary ‘eligibility’ examination for non-gazetted posts. This includes the banking jobs in government sector banks, railway jobs (RRB) and SSC jobs. The agency, to be set up under the Societies Registration Act would have representatives of the Ministry of Railways, Department of Financial Services, the SSC, RRB and IBPS.
What is NRA CET?
CET stands for Common Eligibility Test. NRA would conduct an online CET which would serve as a screening or a preliminary examination for various non-gazetted government jobs including the RRBs, IBPS (banking jobs) and the SSC jobs (CGL, CHSL, etc.). It would only be the first level of examination which can be taken by the candidates. If qualified, candidates would then have to appear for the Tier 2 and 3 of the examinations, which would consequently be conducted by the NRA.
How many CET’s would NRA conduct?
Separate CET’s would be conducted for the different levels of eligibility – 10th pass, 12th pass and graduates. The examination would be conducted twice every year and in online mode.
What would be the medium of CET?
NRA would conduct CET in 12 major Indian Languages and not just in English or Hindi.
Which all exams would NRA CET cover?
To begin with, NRA CET would cover recruitment examinations for Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS Clerk, PO) and Staff Selection Commission (SSC CHSL, CGL, Steno Group C, D, JHT, etc.). These would then be expanded to the other non-gazetted posts.
What are non-gazetted posts?
Group C and D Government jobs are non-gazetted posts and would now be covered by the NRA CET. For example. RRB NTPC, RRB Group D, RRB Level 1, SSC CGL, SSC CHSL, IBPS PO, IBPS Clerk, etc.
Would RRB NTPC, Group D Exams come under NRA?
The preliminary examination for RRB NTPC (which is Group C) and Group D posts would now be conducted by NRA. Please note, there is no clarity as yet if the same would be applicable for the RRB NTPC 2019 and Group D 2019 examinations, which are still pending.
Do I have to appear for different CET’s for RRBs, SSC, and IBPS jobs?
Candidates need to appear for the CETs based on the primary qualifying criteria. Separate CETs would be conducted for jobs that require minimum high school certificate (Class 10), for jobs that require minimum higher secondary or Class 12 certificate and graduation. If the jobs applied for require the same level, the candidate need not appear for separate CETs. For example, there would be the same CET for IBPS PO, Clerk and SSC CGL, JHT examinations. The score of the NRA CET’s, in other words, would be applicable to all.
Would I have to appear for other exams after clearing the CET?
Yes. If you qualify the CET, then you would need to appear for the second and third rounds of the recruitment. The NRA would only screen for basic aptitude and the actual selection would be based on the recruitment criteria specified for the jobs by the respective recruitment agencies – RRB, SSC and IBPS.
Would RRB, IBPS and SSC stop working?
No. RRBs, IBPS and SSC would continue to conduct examinations for recruitment for the various vacancies notified by the government. They would only stop conducting the screening exam.
What would be the validity of CET?
NRA CET score would be valid for three years. It means that once a candidate qualifies CET, he/she need not appear for the examination for three years and would be eligible to appear for the various recruitment examinations conducted in the three years – depending on the age-limit set by the recruiting agency.
What is the syllabus for NRA CET?
Syllabus for NRA would be announced once NRA becomes functional. It is expected that the syllabus would be in line with the current syllabus for the preliminary examinations for various levels of examinations.
Would NRA also cover UPSC Exams?
No. UPSC or Union Public Service Commission conducts the recruitment examinations for Group A and Group B posts. These examinations do not come under the ambit of NRA.
When would NRA CET 2020 be held?
NRA CET 2020 may not be conducted. The details regarding the implementation of NRA and the calendar for the examination would be shared once the agency is set up. The dates and when exactly the test would be held would be shared in due course of time and notified on this page.
Is NRA CET better than the current system?
Yes. NRA CET would ease the recruitment process and also save time and money. Instead of repeatedly appearing for the examination, the candidate may qualify the CET once and then appear for multiple recruitments directly for a period of 3 years (provided he meets the other criteria). Also, the exam would be conducted in 12 major Indian languages – giving the candidates the option and ease of selecting the medium of the paper. It being online and conducted twice every year would give the aspirants flexibility and also speed up the process.
