United Airlines plans to Adding 1000 Positions in Local Hiring named Chicago Job Fair.United Airlines has an open hiring window as it prepares for higher travel in the months ahead, assuming COVID cases continue to drop.

The airline announced on Monday that it has hired 700 personnel for its Chicago operations and expects to hire 1,000 more. Maddie King, a spokeswoman, said the company intends to fill as many vacancies as possible at a recruitment fair on Wednesday.

The event will take place at the United Center, 1901 W. Madison St., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Ramp service staff, customer service agents, technicians, flight attendants, and corporate responsibilities are all available. United Airlines has a hub at O’Hare Airport.

During the epidemic, the airline significantly restricted service and made numerous rounds of job cutbacks, but it has taken steps to prepare for a recovery in the industry. It purchased 270 new Boeing and Airbus planes, the greatest acquisition by any carrier in the last decade, and is also resuming operation 52 grounded Boeing 777s.

According to King, United is planning the largest expansion of transatlantic service this summer, with flights from Chicago to Zurich beginning April 23 and Chicago to Milan beginning May 6. She stated that service to Reykjavik, Iceland, will begin later.

Domestically, she said, the airline plans to expand its service beyond the 170 cities it presently serves from O’Hare. The airline’s benefits package, particularly travel privileges, are highlighted on the job fair’s website. Employees are entitled to unlimited standby travel as well as discounts on all United destinations.

Attendees will be entered to win two round-trip United Economy tickets to any domestic location, according to the airline. Everyone who attends will receive a 20% discount on a future United flight.

According to King, ramp workers can join right out of high school and earn up to $90,000 in salaries and perks each year. According to her, technicians can earn up to $140,000 in compensation and perks, while flight attendants can earn up to $90,000.

In its most recent earnings report, United said it expected its first quarter 2022 flying capacity would be down about 18% from the first quarter of 2019, before the pandemic. But the airline said it expected demand to improve gradually throughout the year.
