UGC Planned to Increase International Outreach – 25% Extra Seats With No Entrance Exam!!! The University Grants Commission (UGC) has planned to allow 25 per cent supernumerary seats in Universities and higher education institutions across the country for foreign students. On regarding this UGC chairman Jagadesh Kumar said that, University Grants Commission (UGC) plans to create more seats for foreign students across the country by giving 25 percent seats with no entrance exam for admission.
This decision was taken at a meeting of the University Grants Commission (UGC) held in the last week, he added. It has been informed that these supernumerary seats will be created beyond the sanctioned strength and will be decided by the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) as per the guidelines and norms issued by the regulatory bodies considering the requirements including infrastructure, faculty. Accordingly, HEIs may create 25 percent supernumerary seats for international students over the number and above the total admission allowed for undergraduate and postgraduate programs for each course.
HEIs will also be allowed to admit international students using the admission process of foreign universities. There is no mandatory entry process for these students to write entrance exam. Apart from that, the place will not be allotted to any one when international students in undergraduate and postgraduate programs not filled. Supernumerary seats in technical institutes are governed by their respective statutory bodies. Accordingly, details such as the number of seats allotted to international students in each program, fees, admission process, eligibility conditions will be available on the HEI’s website.
