Recently the UGC gives the permission to both the Annamalai University and Periyar University to practice the Distance Education programme. But those educational organizations do not get the proper permission from the UGC. And also the users give complaints over these Universities that, running programmes in distance education mode, outside their region.

The UGC released the official statement regard this de-affiliation of the ODL in this above mentioned TamilNadu based educational organizations. The official statement reads, “Annamalai University was recognized to offer programmes under distance mode from 1995 to 2015, and granting admission beyond the said duration stands invalid”.
