  • ‘One Bar, One Vote’ rule is part of a guideline set by the Supreme Court in 2015 to identify the number of genuine advocates practising in different courts of the country. “The rule allows multitude of memberships of different Bars, yet it gives only one voting right to an advocate”.

  • Mahathir Mohamad-led Malaysia government said it will introduce a sales and service tax (SST) to partly offset the shortfall in revenue from effectively scrapping a goods and service tax (GST) from June.

US team invent new device that may increase smart phone battery life 100 times

  • Led by Indian-origin scientist Deepak K. Singh, it develops new magnetic material that employs a unique “honeycomb” lattice with distinctive electronic properties that could increase the battery life of electronic devices, such as smart phones and laptops, by more than a hundred-fold.

Newest frog for India from Karnataka

  • The latest addition to India’s frog fauna is the Mangaluru narrow-mouthed frog (Microhyla kodial), which has been found in a small industrial region in coastal Karnataka.

Drug maker Granules’ ANDA gets USFDA nod

  • Granules India Ltd. said it had got U.S. Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) approval for its abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) for Methylergonovine 0.2 mg tablets.
  • It is a semi-synthetic ergot alkaloid used for prevention and control of postpartum haemorrhage.
