IIT Delhi has launched a new department; that will provide a B.Tech in Energy Engineering: Starting in the 2021-2022 academic session, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi plans to open a new department of energy science and engineering under its Centre for Energy Studies (CES) and offer a new undergraduate degree programme, B.Tech in energy engineering, with a 40-student intake. The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced will be used to enrol students.

B.Tech in Energy Engineering is now available at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. From the forthcoming academic session forward, the new programme will be available, and admissions will be given through JEE Advanced. The programme is being provided through the IIT-Delhi campus’s soon-to-be-established Department of Energy Science and Engineering.

The 45-year-old Centre for Energy Studies will be expanded to create the new department (CES). The restructuring of the Centre for Energy Studies into a Department of Energy Science and Engineering has been approved by the Institute’s Board of Directors.

This apart from maintaining the Centre for Energy Studies’ three existing MTech programmes, the new department will offer an undergraduate degree programme – B.Tech in Energy Engineering – beginning in the academic year 2021-2022 with an intake of 40 candidates who have passed the JEE Mains (Advanced).

“There is a crucial need to cultivate manpower with the potential to flexibly respond to diverse energy and environment-related concerns in a holistic manner with requisite foresight and vision,” stated Prof. KA Subramanian, Head, CES.  The B.Tech programme in Energy Engineering is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to address the energy sector challenges that humanity is facing, such as improving energy access, supply quality, and reliability, as well as improving utilisation efficiency, de-carbonization, and lowering energy supply costs.”
