Gap Between 1st And 2nd Doses of Covishield Increased: Usually the gap between the first and second doses of the Covishield is six to eight weeks. But now the official statement released by the center states that, the gap between the first and second doses of the Covishield COVID-19 vaccine can be increased to 12-16 weeks. Important Announcement on COVID Vaccine Covishield

Covishield is a vaccine which helps us to protect ourselves from COVID 19 that is manufacturing by Oxford, AstraZeneca vaccine is a vaccine that aims to protect against COVID-19.  As we said, the gap between the first and second doses of the Covishield is six to eight weeks usually. Now the official statement confirms that first and second doses of the Covishield COVID-19 vaccine can be increased to 12-16 weeks from the existing six-eight weeks. But there is no changes have been announced in dosage intervals for Covaxin, which remains at four to six weeks.

Official Statement:

“Based on available real-life evidence, particularly from the United Kingdom, the COVID-19 Working Group has agreed to increase dosing interval between two doses of the Covishield vaccine to 12-16 weeks. No change in intervals for Covaxin was recommended,” the centre said in its statement.

The changes were accepted Wednesday by the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration, which is led by NITI Aayog member Dr VK Paul, and by the Union Health Ministry. The National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization also said pregnant women can choose their vaccine and lactating women will be eligible after delivery. Currently neither is eligible to get the shots.

The panel also stated that those having laboratory test proven SARS-CoV-2 illness should defer vaccination for six months after recovery.

This is the second time in three months Covishield dosage intervals have been extended. Previously in March the officials increase the gap from 28 days to six-eight weeks for better results. First, it was four weeks for the second dose, and then six-eight weeks and now we are told 12-16 weeks. Hope this will give us good results. Stay connected for the further updates regarding this.
