September 30 – World Deaf Day

  • World Deaf Day 2019 will be celebrated at last Monday in the month of September.In 2019 it is celebrated on September 30.
  • World Deaf Day is observed “to create awareness among the public to show how much the deaf could contribute to society and the country’s economic growth”.

September 30 – International Translation Day

  • On 24 May 2017, the General Assembly adopted resolution 71/288 on the role of language professionals in connecting nations and fostering peace, understanding and development, and declared 30 September as International Translation Day.
  • International Translation Day is meant as an opportunity to pay tribute to the work of language professionals, which plays an important role in bringing nations together, facilitating dialogue, understanding and cooperation, contributing to development and strengthening world peace and security.

TAMILNADU

62 new marine species found in Gulf of Mannar

  • The Suganthi Devadason Marine Research Institute (SDMRI) has recorded 62 new species and 77 new patch reef areas during a recent baseline study of biological resources in the Gulf of Mannar.
  • The 62 newly recorded species in the study include 14 species of hard corals (the number of coral species identified has increased from 117 to 131), 17 species of soft corals, 11 species of sponges, 16 species of mollusks and two species of seaweeds and fishes each. In addition, more than 50 unidentified species were observed, which are believed to be new to Gulf of Mannar.

Exhibition on Mahatma Gandhi and Leo Tolstoy at Russia

  • Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), ShriPrakash Javadekar inaugurated a unique exhibition on Mahatma Gandhi and Leo Tolstoy at Yasnaya Polyana, the birth place of Tolstoy at Russia. The exhibition presented and highlighted their correspondence and their thought process in a very artistic manner.

Biggest festival of Nepal ‘Bada Dashain’ begins

  • Bada Dashain, the biggest festival of Nepal has begun. The festival starts on first day of Navaratri with Ghatsthapana. The 15 day festival is celebrated in the month of Ashwin. People within Nepal and abroad visits their native places to celebrate Bada Dashain festival with their family and friends.

Nepal releases coins to mark Guru Nanak Dev’s 550th birth anniversary

  • To celebrate 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the Nepal Rastra Bank has issued commemorative coins. In special ceremony coins of 2,500, 1,000 and 100 Nepali rupees were launched in Kathmandu.

Navy’s first new stealth frigate, INS ‘Nilgiri’

  • INS ‘Nilgiri’, the first of the Navy’s seven new stealth frigates was launched at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited in Mumbai.
  • INS Nilgiri is the first ship of Project17A. Project 17A frigates is a design derivative of the Shivalik class stealth frigates with much more advanced stealth features and indigenous weapons and sensors. These frigates are being built using integrated construction methodology. The P17A frigates incorporate new design concepts for improved survivability, sea keeping, stealth and ship manoeuvrability.

“Sikh Heritage of Nepal”

  • A book titled “Sikh Heritage of Nepal” was released in Kathmandu. The book published by Indian Embassy highlights Nepal’s Sikh connection which dates back to Guru Nanak Dev, who travelled through Nepal during his third Udasi. The book also underlines the Sikh community’s significant contribution to the development of Nepal.

President of India Awards Colours to Corps of Army Air Defence

  • The Hon’ble President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind awarded the President’s Colours to the Corps of Army Air Defence at Gopalpur Military Station on 28 Sep 19 on completion of 25 yrs as an independent arm.
  • The President’s Colours is the highest honour bestowed upon a regiment of the armed forces in recognition of their invaluable contribution to the security of the nation during peace and hostilities.
  • Air Defence has been in existence since 1940 as a part of Corps of Artillery however, as an independent arm, it got recognition in 1994.

Publications Division bags nine awards in Delhi Book Fair 2019

  • Publications Division has won nine awards in various categories for its participation in Delhi Book Fair 2019. These awards have been given by the Federation of Indian Publishers – the apex body of Indian publishers that organises Delhi Book Fair.

Indian junior boys win bronze medal in Serbia Junior & Cadet Open

  • In Table Tennis, Indian junior boys Raegan Albuquerque and Yashansh Malik paired with the Netherlands’ Lode Hulshof won the bronze medal at the Serbia Junior and Cadet Open in Mumbai.

Maldives International Challenge

  • In Badminton, Indian shuttler Kaushal Dharmamer clinched the men’s singles title at the Maldives International Challenge with a straight-games win over Siril Verma in Male.
