September 26 – International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons

  • In 2013, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) declared September 26 to be the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons (Nuclear Abolition Day).
  • The aims of the day are to enhance public awareness about the threat posed to humanity by nuclear weapons and the necessity for their total elimination.

September 26 – World Maritime Day

  • The World Maritime Day is observed on September 26. This day provides a platform that brings together important actors and stakeholders in the maritime community to discuss matters of mutual concern.
  • The World Maritime Day theme for the year is “Empowering Women in the Maritime Community”.

Dr Harsh Vardhan launches ‘TB Harega Desh Jeetega’ Campaign

  • Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare launched the new TB Harega Desh Jeetega Campaign, along with the National TB Prevalence Survey. Multi-stakeholder and community participation shall form the pivot of the countrywide campaign. “As part of our commitment to end-TB, we have established patient forums in over 95 per cent of all districts in the first 100 days, which clearly shows our strong commitment to ending TB in the shortest time.

 Pension workshop held for BSF personnel in Jammu

  • The Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW), Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Government of India has sent a team of officers today to conduct a special workshop for the Border Security Force (BSF) on Pensioners’ Portalat their Frontier Hqrs. in Jammu. The workshop was attended by more than 100 officials of all the Ranks of BSF.

112 single emergency helpline number launched in Delhi

  • A single emergency number -112- was launched today for police, fire and ambulance emergency services. Now, the citizens of Delhi can avail the facility of all these three emergency services by dialling the number – 112. This call immediately passes to the Control Room for providing immediate assistance to the distress caller.

PM Modi addresses 1st India-Caribbean leaders summit; urges them to join ISA

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the leaders of the Caribbean Community and Common Market during the first-ever India-Caricom leaders’ summit in New York last night. The meet focused on fighting climate change and increasing India’s participation with the grouping.
  • A statement released by External Affairs Ministry said that Mr Modi announced a 14 million US dollar grant for community development projects in the Caricom and another 150 million line of credit for solar, renewable energy and climate change related projects

National Conference on Skills and Entrepreneurship at Bengaluru

  • The Vice President of India Shri M Venkaiah Naidu Inaugurates  the National Institute of Personnel Management Personnel (NIPM) 2019 conference on ‘India’s Changing Paradigm: Skills and Entrepreneurship for Global Competitiveness’ in Bengaluru, Speaking on the occasion , he said that skilling of youth should become national movement and urged all stakeholders to participate in a mission- mode to accomplish this objective.

BPR&D to organize a National Level Seminar cum Exhibition and Demonstration on Anti-Drone Technology

  • The Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, is organizing a National Level Seminar cum Exhibition on Anti-Drone Technology at BPR&D, HQ New Delhi on September 26, 2019 and Demonstration on September 27, 2019 at BSF Campus, Bhondsi, Haryana.

12th Meeting of National Institute of Technology, Science Education and Research (NITSER)

  • Union HRD Minister Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ chaired the 12th Meeting of National Institute of Technology, Science Education and Research (NITSER) in New Delhi .The meeting was attended by Directors of the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur and Chairpersons of Board of Governors of these Institutes.

Exercise MALABAR 2019

  • The 23rd edition of the Trilateral Maritime Exercise MALABAR, is scheduled between the navies of India, Japan and USA from 26 Sep to 04 Oct 19 off the coast of Japan. Two frontline indigenously designed and built Indian Naval Ships, the Multipurpose Guided Missile Frigate Sahyadriand ASW Corvette Kiltan, with Rear Admiral Suraj Berry, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet embarked onboard, arrived at Sasebo today, to participate in the Exercise.

Bulgaria’s Kristalina Georgieva appointed new IMF chief

  • Bulgaria’s Kristalina Georgieva has been selected as the new head of the International Monetary Fund(IMF). She is the first person from an emerging market economy to lead the IMF. The economist succeeds Christine Lagarde for a five-year term from October.

Adille Sumariwalla re-elected as IAAF Council member

  • The President of Athletics Federation of India, Adille Sumariwalla was today re-elected as member of the Council of International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) for a second four-year term.
    The election took place during the 52nd Congress of the sport’s world governing body at Doha. The former Olympian Sumariwalla received 121 votes to get elected as one of the 13 individual members of the IAAF Council.

National Water Mission Awards- 2019

  • NWM,Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti has initiated the ‘National Water Mission Awards’ to recognize excellence in water conservation, efficient water use and sustainable water management practices.
  • Union Minister for Jal Shakti Shri Gajendra Singh Sekhawat said that water conservation along with water-harvesting and judicious and multiple use of water are key to tackle the water challenge in India.

Sardar Patel National Unity Award’ – Highest Civilian Award for contribution to Unity and Integrity of India

  • Government of India has instituted the highest civilian award in the field of contribution to the unity and integrity of India, in the name of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. A notification instituting the Sardar Patel National Unity Award was issued by Ministry of Home Affairs on 20th September, 2019.
  • The Award seeks to recognize notable and inspiring contributions to promote the cause of national unity and integrity and to reinforce the value of a strong and united India. The award will be announced on the occasion of the National Unity Day, i.e. the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel on 31st October.

PM receives ‘Global Goal Keeper Award’ for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi received the ‘Global Goalkeeper’ Award by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, on 24 September 2019. The award ceremony took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session in New York.

Prime Minister dedicated the award to those Indians who transformed the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan into a mass movement and made it a part of their daily lives.

Pankaj Advani-Aditya Mehta pair wins World Team Snooker title

  • The Indian duo of Pankaj Advani and Aditya Mehta has won the IBSF World Snooker Team title at Mandalay, Myanmar .
    The Indian pair beat Thailand’s team comprising C.Pongsakorn and D.Poramin 5-2 in the final.
    This takes Advani’s world title tally to a phenomenal 23 while Aditya claimed his maiden title.
