IMPORTANT DAYS

November 01 – World Vegan Day

  • World Vegan Day is an annual event celebrated by vegans around the world every 1 November.Vegan Day first occurred on November 1st, 1994 as a way of commemorating the 50th anniversary of the UK Vegan Society and indeed the term “Vegan”. The Vegan Society was established in November of 1944.

 NATIONAL AFFAIRS

Bamboo Technology Parks to be set up in the two new UTs of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh

  • Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region took a review meeting with officials of the Ministry and the North Eastern Council (NEC, during which he announced that Bamboo Technology Parks would be set up in the two new Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. The Cane and Bamboo Technology Centre (CBTC) under NEC will implement the project, he added.
  • The project for setting up three new Bamboo Technology Parks in Jammu, Srinagar and Leh would be in consonance with the National Bamboo Mission (NBM). A Bamboo Industrial Park has already been approved to be set up in the Dima Hasao district of Assam.

New Regional Centre of GB Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment & Development

  • Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Prakash Javadekar approved the proposal of setting-up of a New Regional Centre of the GB Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment & Development at Ladakh.
  • As the setting up of the Centre is being envisaged concurrently with Ladakh being designated as a separate Union Territory (UT), the Institute is expected to have an institutional linkage with the Ladakh Administration right from its inception.

ARUNACHAL PRADESH

1st Multilingual Writers’ Meet

  • For the first time, Arunachal Pradesh will host the Multilingual Writers’ Meet at its oldest town Pasighat in East Siang District. The two-day event will be held at the auditorium of College of Horticulture and Forestry.
  • Sahitya Academi in collaboration with Central Agricultural University, Imphal and Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society, Itanagar are hosting the meet. 25 prominent multilingual writers and poets from all parts of India and many literary dignitaries of the host state will attend the event.

NAGALAND

Nagaland launched the Ex-gratia Scheme

  • Nagaland Government launched the Nagaland Ex-gratia Scheme for Students Studying outside Nagaland belonging to any recognized scheduled tribes and indigenous inhabitants of the state. The scheme is targeted for students who die outside the state while pursuing secular, technical, professional, diploma and theology courses.

Ladakh LG RK Mathur launches new website for Ladakh

  • Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh RK Mathur launched new Ladakh website. After swearing in as Lt. Gov in an interactive session with the District administration of Leh, RK Mathur launched the attractive and all new www.ladakh.nic.in website.
  • The new Lt. Governor RK Mathur who is IITian and former Chief Information Commissioner has suggested technical changes and thrusted upon more transparency through the new Ladakh website.

SUMMITS & CONFERENCES

Meeting of Council of Heads of Government (CHG) of SCO

  • Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh to attend a key meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and participate in bilateral engagements with the Uzbekistan government.
  • Shri Rajnath Singh will represent India in the meeting of Council of Heads of Government (CHG) of SCO at Tashkent on November 2, 2019. The leaders participating in the meeting are expected to focus their discussions on the multilateral economic cooperation in the SCO region.

5th Inter Governmental Consultations

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Angela Merkel will co-chair the 5th Inter Governmental Consultations (IGC) in New Delhi. The two leaders will also hold talks and discuss a host of bilateral issues including economic partnership, trade, investment and agriculture.
  • Entire gamut of bilateral issues including science, education, technology, people to people contact and cultural exchanges will also be discussed. Two countries are likely to sign around 20 agreements.

16th ASEAN-India summit and 14th East Asia summit

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Thailand from 2nd to 4th November to participate in the 16th ASEAN-India summit, 14th East Asia summit and 3rd Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
  • Prime Minister Modi will release the commemorative coin marking the 550th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Thai translation of Tirukkural (Tamil classic).

Spain confirms offer to host COP Climate Summit

  • The Spanish government confirmed that it has offered to host the COP 25 climate summit after Chile abandoned plans to hold it due to deadly anti-government protests.
  • Earlier, Chile’s President Sebastian Pinera said Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez had “made a generous offer to host the COP 25 summit in Madrid” on the original scheduled dates of December 2-13.

Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2021

  • The Union Minister reviewed the preparations for the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2021 and instructed all the Deputy Commissioners to work hard to make India successful in this examination.
  • Nishank said that India is going to participate in the PISA competition to be held in 2021. He said that this examination is an important platform to bring global recognition to Indian talent. There is no dearth of competence, discipline and talent among our students, but the need is that they get the right direction and guidance.

MoU & AGREEMENTS

MoU Signed between AIIA and Germany

  • An MOU has been signed between All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) under Ministry of AYUSH and Frankfurter Innovationszentrum Biotechnologie GmbH (FiZ).
  • One important goal of the collaboration is to research in the field of genomics and develop evidence-based guidelines supported with latest technologies like Artificial Intelligence and machine learning so as to integrate Ayurvedic principles and practises into modern medicine for the wider reach to the masses.

DEFENCE

‘Dharma Guardian’ military exercise

  • The second edition of the annual joint military exercise, named as Dharma Guardian between Indian and Japanese Army ended at Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School (CIJWS) Vairengte in Mizoram.
  • The primary focus of this fortnight-long joint military exercise was to train and equip the contingents in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations in mountainous terrain.

APPOINTMENTS

IAEA Board Appoints Rafael Grossi as Director General

  • Ambassador Rafael Mariano Grossi is set to take office as Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in early December, following his appointment to the post by the Agency’s Board of Governors.
  • IAEA appointed by acclamation Mr Grossi as Director General, to serve for four years from 3 December.

Pooja Gehlot enters final of UWW Under-23 World Championships

  • Indian women grappler Pooja Gehlot (53kg) has entered the finals after beating Turkey’s Zeynep Yetgil in the semifinals of the UWW Under-23 World Championships 2019 in Budapest. In the summit clash, Pooja will be up against Haruno Okuno of Japan.
