  1. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced at the World Trade Summit that automobile companies are to manufacture Flex fuel vehicles:
  • The government is implementing the use of various alternative fuels in an effort by the Union Minister to convert fossil fuels at the Global Trade Summit.
  • Most vehicles in India will soon run on 100 percent ethanol. Flex-fuel or flexible fuel is an alternative fuel that combines gasoline and methanol or ethanol.
  • The Finance Commission has developed a roadmap for ethanol blends for the period 2020-2025 to expedite the introduction of flex-fuel vehicles. The government is also working to promote the use of green hydrogen and other alternative fuels.
  1. Indian Railways launches first power freight terminal:
  • The Asansol division of Indian Railways has successfully operated Maidan Power Limited in Thaparnagar, Jharkhand. This is called the kinetic power multi-modal cargo terminal or GCD. It is the first terminal operated by Indian Railways since the establishment of the GCT policy in December 2021.
  • The Maidan Power Project was launched in 2009 and started generating electricity in 2011.

Purpose:

  • Rail transport benefits the economy because it is the most energy efficient and cost effective mode of transport.
  • Operation of this terminal and others like it will have a significant positive impact on the economy of the country.
  • The Kathi Shakti initiative brings together 16 ministries and departments of the Government of India, including railways and roads.
  1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the Rashtriya Raksha University in Gujarat :
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the new campus of Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) at Lavat village near Gandhinagar, Gujarat. It is the first university established in 2009 by the Government of Gujarat for the Homeland Security of India.
  • The university, a nationally important institution, commenced operations on October 1, 2020.
  • The government established the National Police University under the name of Rashtriya Raksha University by upgrading the Raksha Shakti University established by the Government of Gujarat in 2010.
