June 29 – International Day of the Tropics
- The International Day of the Tropics celebrates the extraordinary diversity of the tropics while highlighting unique challenges and opportunities nations of the Tropics face. It provides an opportunity to take stock of progress across the tropics, to share tropical stories and expertise and to acknowledge the diversity and potential of the region.
June 29 – National Statistics Day
- The National Statistics Day was observed across India on June 29 with an aim to create public awareness about the importance of statistics in socio-economic planning and policy formulation. It is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Prof. P C Mahalanobis, on 29th June, in recognition of his invaluable contribution in establishing the National Statistical System.
- The theme of Statistics Day, 2019 is “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.

HRD Ministry releases 5-year vision plan on Quality Education
- The Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Human Resource Development has finalized and released a five-year vision plan named Education Quality Upgradation and Inclusion Programme (EQUIP).
- According to an official release, the report has been prepared after a detailed exercise done by the experts from various areas, including promoting excellence, employability and entrepreneurship among others

Computational Modeling and Nanoscale Processing Unit
- Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Shri. Ramweswar Teli inaugurated Computational Modelling and Nanoscale Processing Unit at the Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology (IIFPT) in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. The Minister also inaugurated a National Conference on Emerging Techniques in Food Processing.

Training Workshop for implementing teams of Van Dhan Yojana Organized
- A workshop to flag the 100 days’ plan for implementation of the Van Dhan Scheme was organised by TRIFED of Ministry of Tribal Affiars in New Delhi. The workshop was inaugurated and chaired by Minister for Tribal Affairs, Shri Arjun Munda. The Van Dhan program workshop was organised for training of implementing teams of Van Dhan Yojana.
Conclave on ‘Transforming North East India through Science and Technology’
- In Meghalaya, a two-day North East Conclave 2019 on ‘Transforming North East India through Science and Technology’ began at Shillong. It has been organised by the Institute of Bio-resources and Sustainable Development (IBSD).

First Resilient Kerala Program
- The Government of India, the Government of Kerala and the World Bank signed here a Loan Agreement of USD 250 million for the First Resilient Kerala Program to enhance the State’s resilience against the impacts of natural disasters and climate change.

Indian Naval Ship Tarkash reaches Alexandria
- Indian Naval Ship Tarkash reached Alexandria on a three-day visit to Egypt, as a part of Western Fleet Overseas Deployment programme. An official release said, during the visit of Tarkash, professional interactions are planned with the Egyptian Navy towards further enhancing co-operation between the two forces.
China tests new ballistic missile JL-3
- China has successfully tested its latest submarine-launched ballistic missile, the JL-3. The JL-3 is China’s latest submarine-launched ballistic missile under development that is expected to reach targets farther away with higher accuracy.

Shanmugam appointed as new Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary
- The Tamil Nadu State government announced the appointment of K. Shanmugam as Chief Secretary. The officer, belonging to the 1985 batch secceeded Girija Vaidyanathan.

4th India Maritime Awards
- The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), won the ‘Best Port of the Year- Containerised’ award at the 4th India Maritime Award ’19. The Port won this coveted stature midst some of the best Ports in the country, being nominated in the same category. The JNPT also received a special felicitation for its thirty years of glorious service to the maritime sector.
SPORTS
Shotgun World Championship
- The first batch of the 29-member Indian shooting team left for the Shotgun World Championship in Lonato, Italy. It is the second largest team among the 83 countries featuring 582 shooters in all.
