July 26 – Kargil Vijay Diwas

  • The 20th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas is being celebrated on July 26. The day is named after the successful Operation Vijay in 1999. The Kargil war was fought for more than 60 days and ended with India regaining control of all the previously held territory. The central theme of this year’s celebrations is ‘Remember, Rejoice and Renew’.

Fresh tiger census likely to be out on July 29

  • The much-awaited tiger census is likely to be released on July 29, Global Tiger Day. As part of an agreement in 2010 among these countries, there is a goal to double the global tiger count by 2022.

Anganwadi Centres to get transformed into Model Community facilities

  • Jammu and Kashmir Government rolled out an ambitious plan to transform the Anganwadi Centres into state-of-the-art Model Community Facilities for children and mothers in the State. In the first phase, 50 existing Anganwadi Centres in each district would be transformed through convergence with MGNREGA into Model Anganwadi Centres

‘Clean-Green Arunachal Campaign 2019’

  • Chief Minister Pema Khandu launched the statewide tree plantation programme ‘Clean-Green Arunachal Campaign 2019’ in Itanagar. Mr. Khandu said that the campaign is being held as part of Van Mahotsav celebration and has set the target of planting 1 Crore tree within the next five years.

UP becomes No. 1 in implementation of Pradhanamntri Suraksha Beema Yojna

  • Uttar Pradesh has become number one in implementation of Pradhanamntri Suraksha Beema Yojna in the country. As per the statement released by state government 1.95 crores people have been given insurance cover under the scheme till 31 march 2019.

3 Indian-origin persons in Boris Johnson’s cabinet

  • Rishi Sunak, Priti Patel and Alok Sharma are among the three Indian-origin ministers soon to be inducted into the UK government by new British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Priti Patel as Home Secretary, Rishi Sunak as Chief Secretary to the Treasury and Alok Sharma as International Development Secretary.

Pakistan to launch its first astronaut in 2022

  • Pakistan announced that it will send its first astronaut to space in 2022 using close ally China’s satellite launch facilities. Fawad Chaudhry, Pakistan’s Minister for Science and Technology, said the selection process of the astronaut for the space mission would start from February 2020.

Dubai World Expo 2020

  • Dubai World Expo 2020 will take place for six months beginning 20th October 2020 up to 10th April 2021. The theme of the Expo is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future” with three sub themes – Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability – to generate sustainable solutions to global problems, demand and collaboration areas across cultures, countries and regions.

FICCI International Seminar on ‘Nation Building Through Ship Building’

  • Admiral Karambir Singh, PVSM, AVSM, ADC, Chief of the Naval Staff, addressed the delegates from the industry and SENIOR ECHELONS OF Indian Navy during the FICCI international Seminar on ‘Nation Building Through Shipbuilding’ at New Delhi.

India, Saudi Arabia discuss bilateral hydrocarbon cooperation

  • Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan held discussions with Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources of Saudi Arabia Khalid Al-Falih to further enhance bilateral hydrocarbon cooperation.

MoU between India and Maldives

  • India and Maldives had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Passenger and Cargo Services in Male last month. The objective of the MoU is to improve people to people contact between the two countries by providing an alternate, direct and less expensive means for transport for passengers and goods.

Triple Talaq Bill passed in Lok Sabha

  • The Lok Sabha passed the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage), Bill, 2019 commonly known as Triple Talaq bill by voice vote. Law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said it was important to bring in a law banning instant triple talaq as the practice has continued despite a Supreme Court verdict passed in 2017.

B S Yeddyurappa to take oath as Karnataka Chief Minister

  • B S Yeddyurappa will be sworn in as Chief Minister of Karnataka. Yeddyurappa met Governor Vajubhai Vala stake claim for government formation. The H D Kumaraswamy-led Congress-JD(S) government fell after it secured only 99 votes against the BJP’s 105 in the Karnataka Assembly.
