10th Jagran Film Festival
  • Union Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar inaugurated the 10th Jagran Film Festival in an event held at Siri Fort Auditorium in New Delhi on 18th July. He highlighted the importance and impact of cinema on life of people and termed that it is a medium which connects people. He recalled the historical development of cinema in India and the growing impact of Indian cinema as a transporter of India’s soft power.

WEF Centre, Telangana govt set to send medical supplies via drones
  • Telangana Government and the World Economic Forum’s Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution Network announced that they are set to launch an innovative project to deliver emergency medical supplies such as blood and vaccines via drones. It will help facilitate decision-making in healthcare supply chains, focus on last-mile deliveries and address issues that affect the medical distribution system.

G7 Finance Ministers agree plan for taxing digital companies
  • G7 Finance Ministers meeting in France agreed a plan for taxing digital companies such as Facebook and Google that will set a minimum level of taxation for them. France, which holds the rotating chairmanship of the group of world’s most developed countries, said, new rules should be developed to address new business models allowing companies to do business in a territory without any physical presence.

50th anniversary of first moon landing
  • On July 20, 1969, American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin became the first humans ever to land on the Moon aboard the Apollo 11 mission. The Apollo 11 mission occurred eight years after President John F. Kennedy (1917—1963) announced a national goal of landing a man on the moon by the end of the 1960s. Apollo 17, the final manned moon mission, took place in 1972

13th Meeting of the India-UK Joint Economic and Trade Committee
  • Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Railways PiyushGoyal, and Secretary of State for International Trade of the UK, Dr Liam Fox, met in London for the 13th meeting of the India-UK Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) on 15th July 2019.

MoU & CABINET APPROVAL

MoU Signed between Ministry of Health and Ministry of AYUSH for ‘Tuberculosis Free India’ initiative
  • Ministry of AYUSH and Ministry of Health & Family Welfare have signed MoU to forge inter-sectoral convergence at the level of policy, planning and programme implementation for accelerated response towards “Tuberculosis Free India” initiative. The intended collaboration between the two Ministries aims at development of linkages and integration of TB care services within the infrastructure and institutional network of AYUSH.

DRDO Research Ship INS Sagardhwani Embarks on Sagar Maitri Mission-2
  • SAGAR MAITRI is a unique initiative of DRDO which aligns with the broad objective of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s policy declaration “Safety And Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR)” to promote closer co-operation in socio-economic aspects as well as greater scientific interaction especially in ocean research among Indian Ocean Rim (IOR) countries. Under the aegis of PM’s policy, specific scientific component of DRDO is “MAITRI (Marine & Allied Interdisciplinary Training and Research Initiative)”.
  • INS Sagardhwani has been designed and developed by Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL), Kochi, a premier systems laboratory of DRDO. It conducts ocean research experiments in the Indian waters and spearheads NPOL’s at-sea data collection activities

Union HRD Minister Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ launches the UGC Scheme of ‘Paramarsh’
  • The Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal “Nishank” launched ‘Paramarsh’ – a University Grants Commission (UGC) scheme for Mentoring National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) Accreditation Aspirant Institutions to promote Quality Assurance in Higher Education in New Delhi. The scheme is expected to have a major impact in addressing a national challenge of improving the quality of Higher Education in India.
Union HRD Minister releases Deeksharambh- A Guide to Student Induction Programme
  • The Union Minister of Human Resource Development Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ released UGC Guide to Student Induction Programme – “Deeksharambh” in New Delhi. A guide to Student Induction Programme is to help new students adjust and feel comfortable in the new environment, inculcate in them the ethos and culture of the institution, help them build bonds with other students and faculty members, and expose them to a sense of larger purpose and self-exploration.

SPORTS

ISSF Junior World Cup
  • In Shooting, extending India’s domination at the ISSF Junior World Cup, Sarabjot Singh won the men’s 10 metres air pistol gold. This is India’s ninth yellow metal at the event in Suhl, Germany. India remain on top of the medal standings with nine gold, nine silver and four bronze for a total of 22 medals.
