Birth Anniversary of Thillaiaadi Valliammai:

Every year, February 22, is commemorate as Birth Anniversary of Thillaiaadi Valliammai. She was a South African Tamil woman who worked with Mahatma Gandhi in her early years when she developed her nonviolent methods in South Africa fighting its apartheid regime.

  • Thillaiyadi Valliammai was born on 22 February 1898.

International Mother Language Day 2021:

International Mother Language Day had been celebrated in worldwide on 21, February. In 1999, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO had declared 21st February as International Mother Language Day.

MoU signed between Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and CSIR:

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and CSIR India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the development, conduct and promotion of health research in India.

  • As per the MoU, areas of research collaboration would include genetic diseases that impact infant and neonatal mortality.

  • The super speciality hospital has been set up by the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur with support from the Ministry of Education.
  • The MBBS programme is expected to start from the academic year 2021-22 in addition to Postgraduate and doctoral programmes.

PM dedicates the INDMAX Unit to the nation at Assam:

Prime Minister dedicates to the nation the INDMAX Unit at Indian Oil’s Bongaigaon Refinery, Dibrugarh.

  • Prime Minister will dedicate Gas Compressor Station at Hebeda Village, Assam. He will also inaugurate the Dhemaji Engineering College and lay the foundation stone for Sualkuchi Engineering College.
  • These projects will usher in an era of energy security and prosperity, and open bright avenues of opportunity for local youth.

Piyush Goyal dedicates 88 Railway projects to Nation worth more than Rs. 1000 crore:

88 Railway projects were dedicated to the Nation worth more than Rs 1000 crore making Indian Railways future ready.  Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal has inaugurated and dedicated a host of these projects.

  • These projects related to passenger amenities and facilities at various railway stations in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Karnataka through video conferencing.

PM Narendra Modi inaugurates the extension of Noapara to Dakshineswar Metro Railway WB:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the extension of Metro Railway from Noapara to Dakshineswar, and flag off the first service on this stretch. This 4.1 km extension has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 464 crore.

  • Prime Minister also inaugurate the third line between Kalaikunda and Jhargram over a stretch of 30 km of the 132 km long Kharagpur-Adityapur Third Line Project of South Eastern Railway, which  was sanctioned with an estimated cost of Rs. 1312 crores.
  • Prime Minister dedicates to the nation the doubling of Azimganj to Khargraghat Road section, which is a part of Howrah – Bandel – Azimganj section of Eastern Railway which has been laid at a project cost of about Rs 240 crore.
  • Prime Minister will also dedicate to the nation the fourth line between Dankuni and Baruipara (11.28 kms) of Howrah – Bardhaman Chord Line, laid at the cost of Rs 195 cr and the third line between Rasulpur and Magra (42.42 kms) of Howrah – Bardhaman Main Line laid at the cost of Rs 759 cr.

INTERNATIONAL

India has signed Line of Credit agreement with the Maldives:

India has signed a 50 million dollar Line of Credit agreement in defence sector with the Maldives. The agreement will facilitate capability building in the maritime domain.

  • India also extended a new line of credit of US dollar 40 million for the development of new sports infrastructure in the Maldives.
  • Dr Jaishankar also co-signed the UTF Harbour Project agreement with Maldives Defence Minister Mariya Didi. This project agreement will strengthen Maldivian Coast Guard capability and facilitate regional Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief efforts.

Tamil Nadu CM laid the foundation stone for intra-sate river-linking project:

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami laid the foundation stone for the Cauvery-Vellaru-Vaigai-Gundar intra-sate river-linking project. The first phase of the project is worth Rs 6,941 crore, while the all three phases are pegged at a total cost of Rs 14,400 crore.

  • In the first phase, a 118.45 km canal will be built from Kattalai Canal to South Vellaru in Pudukkottai.

26th edition of ‘Hunar Haat’:

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has inaugurated the 26th edition of ‘Hunar Haat’ in New Delhi. Haat is a beautiful exhibition of India’s traditional art and craft and more importantly country’s “cultural mosaic”. Hunar Haat brings together indigenous artisans and craftsmen from across the country.

Veteran freedom fighter Debananda Gupta has Passed away:

Veteran freedom fighter Debananda Gupta of Kalami under Maneswar block passed away. He participated the ‘Quit India Movement’ and was arrested with many others. He was imprisoned for one year with rigorous punishment for taking part in the freedom movement.

Dojang Napong written by Pudom Taku and Pumu Taku:

Dojang Napong, a book containing classic Nyishi folktales and fables, was released by Governor BD Mishra and Chief Minister Pema Khandu on the occasion of the Statehood Day at IG Park.

  • The book is a collection of 13 enchanting folktales and fables of Arunachal, retold by Pudom Taku and Pumu Taku.
