National News

India signs MoU with Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand to promote adoption of energy efficiency

  • India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle Joint Business Council (IMT-GT JBC), Malaysia; In order to promote the adoption of energy efficiency and sustainable practices in the region.
  • Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a Public Sector undertaking under the Ministry of Power, signed the MoU with the IMT-GT JBC Malaysia coinciding with the India Energy Week celebrations. 

68th India International Garment fair held in Greater Noida 

  • Union minister Darshana Jardosh, inaugurated the 68th India International Garment Fair (IIGF) today at India Export Mart, Greater Noida from 7 to 9 February’2023.
  • The 68th IIGF is being organized by International Garment Fair Association wherein around 250 exhibitors are showcasing their products for Autumn/winter 2023-24.

Mission LIFE-Online Green talk series called GYAAN VIGYAN AUR HUM

  • National Museum of Natural History, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change is organizing a five days online Green talk series “GYAN VIGYAAN AUR HUM ” as a part of MISSION LIFE Awareness Programme from 06th to 10th February 2023.  
  • The programme is aimed to create awareness on important issues related to Environment.

International news

New British stamp with image of King Charles III unveiled

  • Britain’s Royal Mail unveiled the first postage stamps to feature the image of King Charles III, following his ascension to the throne September, 2022.
  • The new design of the stamp shows King Charles facing left, as all British monarchs have done on stamps since the “Penny Black” was issued as the world’s first postage stamp in 1840, under Queen Victoria.

Iran unveils underground airbase named as Eagle 44 

  • Iran’s army unveiled its first underground air force base named Oghab 44 (“Eagle” in Persian) — can accommodate “all types of fighter jets and bombers, in addition to drones, it was “one of the most important air bases of the air force,” equipped with fighter jets armed with long-range cruise missiles
  • Oghab 44 (Eagle -44) is “one of numerous tactical underground air bases for the army’s air force built in different areas of the country in recent years”.

State news

Uttarakhand CM inaugurates the Sewerage Treatment Plant at Haldwani in Nainital district

  • Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated a Sewerage Treatment Plant at Haldwani in Nainital district, and the total cost of the plant is 35 crore 58 lakh rupees. 
  • This scheme has been started to eliminate the pollution in river Ganga and all other rivers of the state. Sewerage plants have been installed near 132 big drains carrying sewerage water to Ganga as well as its tributaries in the state.

India is planning to launch Integrative Medicine Center in Government Hospitals 

  • The Government of India is planning to inaugurate Integrative Medicine Centers in all Government hospitals across the country, and also the centers will mainly focus on Ayurvedic medicines and will use modern technologies.
  • The first Integrative Medicine Centre was inaugurated at the Safdarjang Hospital in Delhi. The main objective of the initiative is to use the traditional knowledge of Indians in the medicinal field.

Union minister unveiled the unmanned traffic management system in New Delhi

  • Union Minister for Road and Highways, Nitin Gadkari unveiled the most cutting-edge unmanned traffic management system in the world, called Skye UTM in New Delhi on 8th February 2023. 
  • Skye UTM is the most advanced and indigenized Aerial traffic management platform that has been built towards providing situational awareness, autonomous navigation, risk assessment, and traffic management to all drone/other aerial mobility operators across the airspace.

Economic news

India’s First Fintech Company Phonepe launched the Cross-border UPI Payments system

  • PhonePe, India’s largest digital payment company has launched support for ‘UPI international’ payments and this feature allows PhonePe’s Indian users traveling abroad to instantly pay foreign merchants using UPI. 
  • Users will be able to make payments in the foreign currency directly from their Indian bank- just like they do with international debit cards.
  • The current launch supports all international merchant outlets in UAE, Singapore, Mauritius, Nepal and Bhutan that have a local QR code.

RBI planning to launch the QR code-based coin vending machine (QCVM)

  • Governor Shaktikanta Das announced that the RBI Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) decided to hike the repo rate by 25 basis points to 6.5 per cent.
  • And also the Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das said that the central bank would launch a pilot project on QR code-based coin vending machines (QCVM) in 12 cities in the country.

Kuldeep arya appointed as director in Union Department of Rural development

  • According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) Kuldeep Arya (IAS) has been appointed as Director in the Union Department of Rural Development for a period of five years on 07.02.2023.
  • Kuldeep Arya, a 2009-batch IAS officer whose term as the additional chief electoral officer in the office of the chief electoral officer in Gujarat, ended on January 31, has been appointed to the post of director in the Union department of rural development.

Archaeological studies

A 700-year-old idol has been found in Theni district of Tamil Nadu

  • Archeologists found idols of Shiva Lingam and Nandi idol buried in the soil in the northern mountain pass near Bodi, Theni district.
  • Researchers have found that the idols are about 700 years old and there are signs of a temple at the site. And historians are studying more about it.

Science and Technology

World’s first super magnets for testing in nuclear fusion was invented 

  • Tokamak Energy of the UK has built a world-first generation of high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnets to be assembled and tested in fusion power plant-relevant scenarios.
  • Tokamak Energy said the Demo4 magnet has a magnetic field strength that is nearly a million times stronger than the Earth’s magnetic field, making it capable of confining and controlling the extremely hot plasma created during the fusion process.

National Table Tennis Tournament – 2023

  • The Tamil Nadu Table Tennis Association will hold the Inter-State National Junior Table Tennis Tournament from February 8th to 16th in Chennai.
  • More than 1,300 players from 30 states and institutions are participating in the tournament. Now after 15 years the National Table Tennis Tournament is being held in Chennai.

100 earthquakes occurs in Turkey in 36 hours

  • Turkey was hit by a powerful earthquake on February 6, and the death toll has now crossed 9000.
  • Also 100 earthquakes occurred in the last 36 hours in Turkey, 5600 buildings were destroyed by earthquakes.
