National News

Schemes for Welfare of Women and Children

  • In order to ensure better monitoring and efficient implementation, Ministry of Women and Child Development, has clubbed together all the schemes being implemented by the Ministry for welfare of women and children in the country into three sections,
  1. Saksham Anganwadi & Poshan 2.0
  2. Mission Shakti
  3. Mission Vatsalya

Name of the Sections Schemes to be coming under sections
Saksham Anganwadi & Poshan 2.0 This programme has been reorganized into 3 primary verticals:

(i)Nutrition Support for Children, Adolescent Girls and Pregnant Women & Lactating Mothers

(ii)Early Childhood Care and Education [3-6 years] and

(iii)Anganwadi Infrastructure including modern, upgraded Saksham Anganwadis.

Mission Shakti Mission Shakti comprises two sub-schemes ‘Sambal’ and ‘Samarthya’ for safety and security of women and empowerment of women respectively.

Mission Vatsalya Under the scheme, support is provided for delivering services for children in need and in difficult circumstances universally across the country;

Develops context-based solutions for holistic development of children from varied backgrounds.

The Child Care Institutions (CCIs) established under the scheme support inter-alia age-appropriate education, access to vocational training, recreation, health care, counselling etc. and covers both rural and urban children.

Indian Languages Festival celebrated in colleges and universities

  • The University Grants Committee has instructed the Indian Languages Festival to be on December 11, 2022 at all types of colleges and universities.
  • The festival is to be held on the eve of Bharatiyar’s birthday. The purpose of this festival is to raise awareness about those languages and to emphasize each state language.

Union Minister Dr Jitendra says, four units of 1000 MW each of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant will be completed by 2027

  • Tamil Nadu-based Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant Units 1 and 2 of 1000 MW capacity each are already in operation and the remaining four units of 1000 MW each are under construction.
  • Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh has said that the full capacity of 6000 MW of Kudankulam region is expected to be reached by 2027.

9th World Ayurveda Congress and Arogya Expo 2022

  • The 9th World Ayurveda Congress (WAC) was inaugurated today at Panaji, Goa in the presence of Union Ministers Shripad Naik, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha.
  • The 9th WAC aims to showcase the efficacy and strength of the AYUSH systems of medicine at the Global level.

2.44 lakh crore project to upgrade the grid for clean power has been announced by the government

  • The Power Ministry has unveiled a ₹2.44 lakh crore plan to build new transmission lines.
  • The project will connect solar plants in Rajasthan and Gujarat and wind farms in Tamil Nadu to the national network, the ministry said.
  • India has a generation capacity of 173 gigawatts from non-fossil fuel sources and plans to almost triple it to 500 gigawatts by 2030.

International Railway Union World Safety Conference

  • The 18th International Railway Union World Safety Conference will be held from 20th to 23rd February 2023 in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
  • The conference will be held titled ‘Railway Safety Strategy – Future Apartments and Liability’. The challenges of railway security organizations around the world will be discussed in the conference.

South Koreans set to become younger as traditional way of counting age scrapped

  • South Korea on Thursday passed laws to scrap its traditional method of counting ages and adopt the international standard – a shift which will make its citizens either 1 or 2 years younger on official documents.
  • Koreans are deemed to be a year old when born and a year is added every Jan. 1. This is the age most commonly cited in everyday life.

Bill introduced to remove governor from university chancellor post in Kerala

  • The University Act Amendment Bill was introduced in the Kerala State Assembly on 7/12/2022, removing the Governor from the post of University chancellor and appointing an Eminent Academician to the post.
  • It is also informed that the person who is appointed will hold the post of chancellor for 5 years.

Artist Manohar Devadas has passed away

  • Due to ill health Manohar Devadas (86), from Madurai, passed away in Chennai.
  • He was born in 1936; At the age of 12, his eyesight was very poor. With that deficiency, he graduated in the United States.
    • In order to honor his talent, the Central Government presented the ‘Padma Shri Award In 2020.

India’s longest 6-lane flyover to be built in Kerala at a cost of ₹1,668.5 crore

  • At a cost of Rs 1,668.50 crore, construction of the country’s longest 6-lane flyover in Kerala’s Alappuzha district will begin soon, reports have said
  • The 12.752 km long elevated flyover will run between Aroor and Thuravoor, above the existing NH-66. The project will be undertaken by Nashik-based Ashoka Buildcon Limited.

Bengaluru is India’s highest digital payment city in Q3-FY22

  • Bengaluru recorded the highest number of digital payments among Indian cities in the third quarter (July–September) of FY2022, according to Worldline’s India Digital Payments Report.
  • Bengaluru was followed by Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Delhi and Kolkata.

GUJARAT-HIMACHAL PRADESH ELECTION RESULTS:

Gujarat:

  • Bhupendra Patel will be sworn in as the Chief Minister on December 12 following the BJP’s victory in the Gujarat state assembly elections, state BJP president CR Patil has said.
  • BJP will form government in Gujarat and Congress in Himachal Pradesh.

Chairman of ONGC was appointed

  • Former chairman of oil refining and marketing company BPCL Arun Kumar Singh will now lead Oil and Natural Gas Company (ONGC) as its chairman as the government on Dec 7,2022 .
  • India’s largest exploration company is getting a full-time head after a gap of 19 months. This is the first instance of a retired person being appointed as the head of a Maharatna PSU.

Dina Boluarte becomes the first female President in Peru

  • The Peru government has a female president for the first time, after ex-president Pedro Castillo was impeached – hours after he tried to dissolve parliament.
  • Dina Boluarte, the country’s former Vice President, was selected as Peru’s sixth president within five years on 7th Dec 2022 and he holds the office until July 2026.
