Anusandhan National Research Foundation Bill 2023 has been passed in Parliament.
  • The Anusandhan National Research Foundation bill 2023 was passed in the Lok Sabha on 07 August 2023.
  • This bill has been passed with the objective of providing the means to amend the mechanisms for providing research, innovation and its development to small and micro entrepreneurs in the fields of natural sciences including mathematics and economics.
  • In particular, the Bill repeals the Engineering and Scientific Research Board Act, 2008 and the process of dissolving the Engineering and Scientific Research Board established under it is seen as important.

International news

Cambodian King Sihamoni has appointed Hun Manet as the country’s new Prime Minister.
  • Cambodian King Sihamoni has appointed Hun Manet, the son of former Prime Minister Sen, as the new Prime Minister of the country, according to the 7th decree issued by the government of the country on August 07.
  • With the country’s king appointing Manet as prime minister, the party’s leader and his cabinet formed from the party must win a “vote of confidence” on August 22.

The UAE Ministry of Climate and Trends Research Center has entered into an MoU.
  • The Ministry of Climate and Environment has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the TRENDS Research and Development Center in August 2023, aiming to further strengthen the UAE’s climate change and environmental sustainability goals as part of its efforts.
  • These MoUs are aimed at promoting and strengthening cooperation between the two organizations in various fields related to sustainability, environment and other shared interests.

Government of India plans to provide Rs 45 crore financial assistance for Sri Lanka’s digital identity development project.
  • In a significant step forward in promoting Sri Lanka’s positive digital transformation, the Government of India has provided a financial assistance of Rs 45 crore in August 2023 in support of a Unique Digital Identity Development Programme.
  • This has been confirmed by the President’s Office in Colombo, Sri Lanka in its latest statement on receipt of funds from the Government of India. And this initiative is aimed at playing a key role in the successful implementation of the country’s digitization enhancement process.

Niger has announced the closure of its airspace amid threats of military intervention from neighboring countries.
  • In a situation where ECOWAS, the Coordinating Group of West African Nations, warned of the use of force if the recently deposed President Mohamed Bazoum is not reinstated by midnight on August 06, the announcement has been made to close Niger’s airspace, citing military intervention by neighboring countries.
  • It is notable that following the detention of the country’s president, Mr. Bazoum, on July 26, 2023, the country’s army chief, General Abdurrahmane, has announced himself as the new leader and president of the country.

Tagore’s 82nd death anniversary is observed in Bangladesh.
  • The 82nd birth anniversary of India’s first Nobel laureate, Rabindranath Tagore, is being observed in Bangladesh on August 06. As per Gregorian calendar, Tagore died on 07th August 1941 at the age of 80 but in Bangladesh his memorial day is observed on “22nd Srabon” as per Bengali calendar (i.e. 06th August).
  • Known as Gurudev, it is significant that he left a deep mark on the culture of the Indian subcontinent (pre-independence India), especially Bengal, through his musical and artistic performances.

State news

An initiative called Indradhanush (IMI) 5.0 Immunization has been launched in Coimbatore district.
  • Indrathanush (IMI) 5.0, a highly intensified mission aimed at protecting under-five children, launched an immunization drive in Coimbatore district on August 07.
  • The first phase of the campaign will be held from August 7 to August 12. The initiative has been launched with the objective of providing medical assistance to pregnant women who have not received the adult tetanus diphtheria (DT) vaccine and to children under five years of age who have missed vaccinations in the National Immunization Reference Schedule.

Prayagraj city has been identified as a key development site under Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0).
  • The Union Ministry of Tourism has announced in its latest notification that ‘Naimisharanya’ and ‘Prayagraj’ in the state of Uttar Pradesh have been identified as major development destinations under “Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0)”.
  • According to this, the central government has launched the “Swadesh Darshan Scheme” (SDS) in the financial year 2014-2015 for the integrated development of tourism circuits in the country and under this there are 08 schemes of thematic circuits identified in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation Recruitment Bill 2023 has been passed.
  • The Telangana State Legislative Assembly passed the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation Recruitment Amendment Bill 2023 on August 07 evening.
  • State Transport Minister Ajay Kumar tabled the Bill in the Assembly after the State Governor Dr. Tamilisai gave his approval earlier. This bill has been passed with the aim of ensuring significant improvement in the transport sector of the state.

Keki Mistry has been appointed Financial Services Strategy Advisor at Adar Poonawala’s firm.
  • The giant Cyrus Poonawalla Group has appointed  Keki Mistry as “Strategic Advisor” for all primary and subsidiary financial services companies under Adar Poonawalla, it said in a statement on August 07.
  • It is notable that he has many years of experience and was the Chief Executive Officer and Vice Chairman of HDFC Limited prior to this appointment. Its highlight is that the Cyrus Poonawalla organization established India’s best and largest biotechnology company and the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer, Serum Company, in 1966.

Sports news

Stefanos Tsitsipas wins the Los Cabos ATP 250 trophy.
  • Famous Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas has won the “ATP 250” title or trophy of Los Cabos on August 05 night.
  • He defeated Australia’s Alex De Minaur 6-3, 6-4 to win the trophy. It is notable that this is the 10th of his career.

Aditi became the first Indian to win the individual world title at the World Archery Championships.
  • Aditi Swami became the first Indian to win a world championship title in the individual category at the final of the World Archery Championship series held in Berlin, Germany on August 05.
  • It is notable that he defeated Andrea Becerra of Mexico with a score of 149-147 in this final match.

Prarthana Thombare has won the Women’s Doubles Championship at the Barcelona Tennis Series.
  • Prarthana Thombare won the women’s doubles title at the women’s tennis tournament held in Barcelona, Spain on August 06.
  • It is notable that she teamed up with Russian player Tikhonova and won this title by defeating France’s Estelle and Latvia’s Diana in the final round with the score of 3-6, 6-1, 10-7.

The Kadam -Bhagat pair have won gold in the four-nation Para Badminton series held in England.
  • World top-ranked men’s doubles pair Sukant Kadam and  Pramod Bhagat have won gold medals in the SL3 and SL4 categories at the Four Nations Combined Para-Badminton International Tournament in Sheffield, England.
  • In men’s doubles, Katham and Bhagat won the gold medal by defeating another Indian pair of Manoj Sarkar- Deep Ranjan Bisoyee by 21-17 21-17.

Obituary

Renowned singer Gaddar, known as Battleship, passed away.
  • Famous Telugu singer Gaddar (age 74) popularly called Battleship passed away on August 06 2023 in Hyderabad. His birth name is G Vithal Rao.
  • Notably, in 2011 Jai Polo won the Nandi Award for “Best Male Playback Singer” in a special program for Telangana. His announcement last month to launch a new political party called the “Gaddar Praja Party” was seen as significant among the youth.

  • National Handloom Day is observed on 07th August every year with the aim of promoting the handloom industry, recognizing the initiatives and skills of the weavers involved in the industry and preserving the heritage and culture of the community.
  • The theme for this year is “Handlooms for Sustainable Fashion”.
