National News

India’s HAL has entered into an MoU with an Argentinian firm for space cooperation and development.

  • The Indian Defense and aircraft manufacturer Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) have signed a memorandum of understanding with Argentinian company Fabrica Argentina de Aviones (FAdeA) for possible cooperation and development in the aerospace sector.
  • HAL said, “This MoU is to explore the possibilities of cooperation between the two countries in the field of MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) and to ensure the space security of both countries.

DGR has signed an MoU with the private sector to create employment for ex-servicemen.

  • The Directorate General Resettlement (DGR) under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare under the Ministry of Defense has signed an MoU with Adecco India Private Limited, New Delhi on June 21 to create employment for ex-servicemen.
  • The agreement is aimed at creating various job opportunities for ex-servicemen in IT, E-commerce, Telecom, Logistics, Defence, Aerospace and Defence, Facility Management, Digital Assessment Services.

Working with UNDP and DAY-NULM on a project to “Promote Women Entrepreneurship”.

  • United Nations Development Organization (UNDP) has partnered with Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Movement (DAY-NULM) in a joint initiative to empower women in the field of Entrepreneurship.
  • It is said to provide partnership support to startups, expansion and development of their own companies, especially in digital economy, electric mobility, waste management, food packaging, economic maintenance and many other sectors.

North India’s first “Skin Bank” opens in New Delhi.

  • The first Skin Bank of North India or Northern States was inaugurated on June 20 at Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi.
  • Safdarjung Hospital said that the center was started with the aim of helping deceased donors donate their skin to treat injuries caused by fire and other causes. Also, the hospital is planning to open a separate website for Skin Bank soon to facilitate this among people.

India-US Defense Development Ecosystem Initiative ‘INDUS X’ Launched.

  • INDUS X, an environmental initiative conference to promote security between India and the US, was launched on June 21 in the US capital, Washington DC.
  • It has been launched with a focus on reforming export control norms and promoting deeper collaboration between government, academia and industry-based entrepreneurs in various domains, including start-ups, the central government said.

Tata Power has emerged as India’s most attractive company in 2023.

  • Tata Power has emerged as the most attractive and unique company in India by 2023, according to recent  HR organization Randstad India in its report.
  • This calculation includes reputation, financial health and career advancement opportunities. And following this, Amazon and Tata Steel have got the next places in this list.

International news

“Vienna” has topped a ranking of the world’s most liveable cities for 2023.

  • The ranking of the world’s most liveable cities for 2023 was released by the Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) on June 21, with Austria’s Vienna at the top of the list.
  • The list is based on several significant factors including education, health care, country’s economic stability, environment and infrastructure of 173 cities around the world. Vienna has held the top spot for several years, followed by Copenhagen in Denmark, Melbourne and Sydney in 2nd, 3rd and 4th places.

“Qazi Faez Isa” appointed as the next Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

  • As the current Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial is retiring soon i.e. on September 17, Qazi Faez Isa will succeed him as the next Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the announcement said.
  • The notification stated that the President has appointed the Chief Justice under Article 175 of the Constitution of Pakistan and that the President will administer the oath of office to Justice Qazi Faez Isa on September 17.

State news

The Odisha Cabinet has approved an allocation of over Rs 1,000 crore for ABADHA Yojana.

  • The Odisha state government approved 15 major projects in the state cabinet meeting held on June 21 under the chairmanship of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
  • It is to be noted that the state cabinet has approved an additional allocation of over Rs 1,000 crore for the Abada Yojana scheme. The state cabinet has approved the “MMSY-Modified Road Development Project” at a cost of Rs 1893 crore, with a total length of 1814.92 km.

Karnataka Government has launched a portal to improve Bangalore infrastructure Development.

  • Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has launched a website aimed at strengthening and improving Bengaluru’s infrastructure.
  • It is set up with an aim to get the government to take it seriously by registering guidelines and measures for the city’s infrastructure and other development by people and businessmen on this portal.

Appointments

Umesh Kumar, a retired judge, has been appointed as the chairman of the new DERC.

  • Umesh Kumar, a retired judge of the Allahabad High Court, has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC).
  • It is notable that he has been appointed to this post amid various conflicts between the central government and the state government. The central government has also said that through this appointment, various changes will be made in the electricity sector of Delhi.

Mahendra Lodha has been appointed as Interim MD & CEO of PFS.

  • PTC India Financial Services Limited (PFS) on June 21 appointed Mahendra Lodha as MD and CEO.
  • He succeeds Pawan Singh who is the current MD & CEO. And he is expected to carry out his excellent work through this appointment.

Sanjay Ranganathan has been appointed as the CEO of L&T’s education subsidiary.

  • Renowned Indian company Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has appointed Sanjay Ranganathan as the CEO of L&T – EduTech, a learning platform for students and entrepreneurs and professionals.
  • It is significant that he has been appointed in place of the present  Sabyasachi Das.

Selection of Shri KP Mahadeva Swamy as Chairman and Managing Director of NBCC India.

  • The PESB selection committee has selected the name of Sri KP Mahadev Swamy for the post of Chairman and Managing Director of NBCC India.
  • The Selection Committee has also informed that he will take charge after the tenure of the present Chairman and Managing Director, Sri PK Gupta, on September 30 this year.

Sports news

India women’s team won the Asia Cup by defeating Bangladesh by 31 runs.

  • India U-23 team won the Women’s Under-23 Asia Cup T20 title with a 31-run win over Bangladesh in the final on June 21.
  • With this victory, the Indian women’s team has shown their talent to the world stage.
