  • The bi-annual talks between Indian and Bangladeshi border forces began in New Delhi aimed at increasing bilateral cooperation in checking trans-border crimes such as smuggling of drugs and narcotics, cattle lifting and gun running across the international border between the two countries.


France bans use of phones in schools

  • A nationwide ban on mobile phones in France schools was brought in under a law passed which also banishes tablets and smart watches from primary and junior schools.

Spanish PM proposes referendum on greater Catalan autonomy

  • Spain’s Prime Minister proposed holding a referendum in Catalonia on greater autonomy for the wealthy region but ruled out allowing a vote on independence as demanded by Catalan leaders.


New device harvests energy from walking, jogging, say scientists

  • Scientists have developed a wearable device that could generate energy from the swing of an arm while walking or jogging. The device, about the size of a wristwatch, produces enough power to run a personal health monitoring system.

Ukraine launches joint military drills with NATO

  • Ukraine launched joint military exercises with the U.S. and a string of other NATO countries. The annual Rapid Trident military exercises, taking place in the western Ukrainian village of Starychi, involve some 2,200 soldiers from 14 countries.
