  • In December 2015, the UN General Assembly designated 5 November as World Tsunami Awareness Day. World Tsunami Awareness Day was the brainchild of Japan, which due to its repeated, bitter experience has over the years built up major expertise in areas such as tsunami early warning, public action and building back better after a disaster to reduce future impacts.

  • Union Minister of Commerce and Industry & Railways, Piyush Goyal, will launch the curtain raiser of 5th Global Exhibition on Services (GES) in New Delhi on 5th November 2019. The exhibition will be held in Bengaluru from 26th – 28th November 2019

  • Defence minister Rajnath Singh will co-chair the 19th India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military and Military-Technical Cooperation starting in Moscow.

  • Directorate General of Training (DGT), under the aegis of Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), announced the launch of Skills Build platform in collaboration with IBM. As part of the programme, a two-year advanced diploma in IT, networking and cloud computing, co-created and designed by IBM, will be offered at the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) & National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs).

  • In Badminton, Indian shuttlers P V Sindhu and Saina Nehwal will begin their campaign at China Open commencing in Fuzhou. Sixth seed Sindhu, who claimed the World Championship title in August this year, will begin her campaign against Germany’s Yvonne Li. Eighth seed Saina will be up against China’s Cai Yan Yan.

  • Left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem claimed four wickets as India B lifted the Deodhar Trophy with a comprehensive 51-run win over India C in the final in Ranchi.
