- The International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS), in 2002, adopted a resolution proposing the 5th of December as World Soil Day to celebrate the importance of soil as a critical component of the natural system and as a vital contributor to human wellbeing.

December 5 – International Volunteer Day
- The International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development (5 December), more commonly referred to as International Volunteer Day (IVD), is an international observance mandated by the UN General Assembly in 1985.
- It is celebrated by many non-governmental organizations, civil society, and the private sector, among others. It is also marked and supported by the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme. Theme “Volunteers build Resilient Communities”

Bihar sets Rs 100 fee for family property split
- Bihar government has fixed 100 rupees as the charge for people to get their property registered after division of family’s immovable assets. This decision was taken at cabinet meeting which was chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Gujarat approves Rs 50 crore SIT fund
- Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has approved 50-crore rupees to Science & Technology Innovation (STI) Fund to provide assistance up to Rs. 50-lakh to UGC and AICTE recognized central and state universities and colleges.

- The United States has reestablished a “permanent diplomatic presence” in Somalia for the first time in 27 years.

RBI to announce its fifth bi-monthly monetary policy review
- The Reserve Bank of India will announce the fifth bi-monthly monetary policy statement for 2018-19 this afternoon. The three-day policy review meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) headed by Governor Urjit Patel began in Mumbai.
