Expedition to Mount Vinson, Antarctica

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over the tricolour flag to Arunima Sinha, marking the beginning of her expedition to Mount Vinson, Antarctica. Arunima Sinha is the first female Divyang to climb Mount Everest.
  • Arunima Sinha had earlier conquered the highest peaks in five continents, becoming the first female Divyang to achieve the feat.

Revised Guidelines for Ground Water Extraction

  • Revised Guidelines for Ground Water Extraction Notified, to be Effective From 1st June 2019. The revised guidelines aim to ensure a more robust ground water regulatory mechanism in the country.
  • Water Conservation Fee Introduced for the First Time

Railways commissions 41 projects for Kumbh Mela

  • Railways has commissioned 41 projects at a cost of 700 crore rupees for the Kumbh Mela that will begin in Allahabad from January next year.

Sweden to ban outdoor smoking

  • Sweden is banning outdoor smoking in certain public places including playgrounds and train station platforms. According to the new law, the goal is to make the Scandinavian country smoke-free by 2025.

British PM wins vote of confidence in her leadership of Conservative party

  • British Prime Minister Theresa May has won a vote of confidence in her leadership of the Conservative Party. She got the support of 200 MPs while 117 MPs voted against her.

Sebi initiates adjudication against NSE

  • Markets regulator SEBI has initiated adjudication proceedings against NSE as well as around 30 entities in the exchange’s co-location matter.

MoU between ADB and Government of India

  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India signed a $60 Million Loan Agreement in New Delhi to continue financing riverbank protection works, renovation of flood embankments, and community-based flood risk management activities in critically flood-prone areas along the Brahmaputra River in Assam.
