Chennai University is on the Financial Crisis now. They have some trouble in getting the National Assessment and Accreditation Council-NAAC recognition and national quality rating. So the members and officials from the Chennai University Management planned a meeting with the higher education officials of the state to consult with them regard this matter.
The Arts and Science Colleges, Engineering Colleges, Medical colleges and all other colleges including Universities in the nook and corners of the country are compulsorily have to get the recognition from the Union Grants Commission-UGC which is under the Union government. In addition to that they must get the status certificate from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council-NAAC. This is mandatory to get the funds from the Union for research infrastructure facilities.

This year is the dead line to the validity of Chennai University NAAC status certificate. Hereafter the University have to apply for the re-certification. For this purpose NAAC Committee will come to the University for Conduct some direct study about the institution. Now they had some struggles in getting this recognition.

According to the rules of the Knock Council, key responsibilities, including administrative positions at the university, should not be vacant for more than six months without a permanent appointment. However, the post of Registrar at the University of Chennai for one and a half years, the permanent post is vacant. Similarly, the financial position of the university is in deficit of Rs 103 crore. So officials will discuss this matter with the government officers.
