Shri Nityanand Rai presides over the 8th Foundation Day of Land Ports Authority of India

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Nityanand Rai, presided over as Chief Guest at the 8th Foundation Day of the Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) celebrated in New Delhi.

Discussions on various aspects of Land Ports – the game changers for travel and regional connectivity, challenges in cargo operations at Integrated Check Posts (ICPs) and their infrastructure requirement added value to the occasion.

Jitendra Singh inaugurated the Pension Adalat in Jammu

Shri Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State Development of North-Eastern Region, inaugurated the ‘Pension Adalat’ in Jammu. The Programme was organized by the Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions, GoI.

About Pension Adalat:

  • Pension Adalat was conducted outside Delhi for the first time.
  • The Pension Adalats will help in on-the-spot redressal of pensioners’ grievances which has given the right of ‘Ease of Living’ to the pensioners.
  • Pension Adalats will help in the immediate redressal of pensioners’ grievances. It aims to give the right of Ease of Living to the pensioners.

National Chambal Sanctuary declared as Eco-Sensitive Zone

The Government of India declared National Chambal Sanctuary as Eco-Sensitive Zone. The Sanctuary is home to Gangetic Dolphins and critically endangered Gharials.

The Sanctuary is home to naturally living Gharials. 75% of Gharials live in the Sanctuary. It also harbours 180 species of migratory birds and fresh water Gangetic Dolphins.

Minister Amit Shah inaugurated NSG Regional Hub at Kolkata

Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah inaugurated the National Security Guard (NSG) Regional Hub campus at Kolkata, West Bengal. It aims to provide adequate facilities to the brave NSG jawans. He also various welfare projects for NSG, amounting to over Rs. 245 crores, across Kolkata, Manesar, Chennai, and Mumbai. It will ensure to boost the capabilities of the force and raising the morale of the jawans.

PM Modi To Quit Social Media

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, one of the forces behind the mainstreaming of social media use for political communication,  took the internet by a storm when he hinted he might give up his social media accounts.

With 53.3 million followers on Twitter, 35.2 million on Instagram, 4.51 million on YouTube and 44.73 million on Facebook, Modi is one of the most popular world leaders on social media. Modi is only the third world leader to have more than 50 million followers on Twitter. The first two are former US President Barack Obama and present US President Donald Trump.

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu claims victory in general elections

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has claimed victory in the general elections. Exit polls indicated that Mr Netanyahu is in a strong position to form the next government.

The election, Israel’s third in less than a year, was called after inconclusive votes in April and September plunged the Jewish state into a political stalemate.

ADB sanctions 4 million USD to member countries to contain Corona Virus

Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide a total of USD 4 million (Rs. 29 crores) to help developing countries in Asia and Pacific to fight the outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19)

The funds will be available for all ADB developing member countries in updating and implementing their pandemic response plans.

The work will be conducted in close collaboration with the World Health Organization(WHO).

US and Taliban seals historic agreement aimed at ending war in Afghanistan

The US (United States) and Taliban militants have signed historic peace agreement in Doha, Qatar to restore peace in Afghanistan. The agreement, signed by the US special envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad and Taliban leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar in the presence of Michael Richard Pompeo,United States Secretary of State, would end the 18 years-long American war in Afghanistan.

Suposhit Maa Abhiyan: Om Birla launches campaign to create malnutrition-free India

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla recently launched a national campaign from Kota, Rajasthan, 2020, to create malnutrition-free India. Om Birla launched “Suposhit Maa Abhiyan” will support adolescent girls and pregnant women in the country.

The main objective of this campaign is to keep pregnant women and newborn health. It has been launched from Kota but it will cover entire India. About 1000 kits of 17 kg balanced diet were provided to 1,000 pregnant women in the first phase of the campaign.

Arunachal Pradesh Assembly goes paperless

Giving a big boost to the Digital India initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly has implemented the National e-vidhan application in the house. The initiative will make all the proceedings in the house paperless.

National e-Vidhan Application is a device neutral and member centric application created to equip them to handle diverse House Business smartly by putting entire information regarding member contact details, notices, in their hand held devices/ tablets and equip all Legislatures/ Departments to handle it efficiently.

J&K: Historic city Chowk renamed as ‘Bharat mata chowk’

The historic City Chowk, which was a commercial center in Old Jammu, has been renamed as ‘Bharat Mata Chowk’. A resolution in this regard was passed by the General house of the BJP(Bharatiya Janata Party)-led Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), after which it was done.

India bagged USD 40 million defence deal with Armenia

India won a $40 million defence deal to supply 4 indigenously-built weapons locating radars to Armenia in Europe. India won the deal by overtaking Russia and Poland. The move by GoI is to boost the defence sector of the country. The deal is a major achievement for the ‘Make in India’ programme in the defence sector.

About SWATHI Weapon:

  • The SWATHI weapon will help in locating radars.
  • The weapon is being developed by DRDO’s Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE)
  • SWATHI can simultaneously handle multiples projectiles fired from different weapons at different locations.

Pekka Lundmark appointed CEO of Nokia

Pekka Lundmark has been appointed as the CEO(Chief executive officer) of Nokia.

Present Nokia Chief Executive Mr. Rajeev Suri will leave his current position on 31st August 2020 and continue to serve as an advisor to the Nokia board until 1st January 2021.

Nokia facesintense competition from Sweden’s Ericsson and China’s Huawei in the race to deliver 5G telecoms networks to operators around the world.

FIH rankings: Indian men’s hockey team climbs to fourth position

The Indian men’s hockey team has climbed to the fourth position, their highest since the inception of the FIH world rankings in 2003.

World champions Belgium remains in pole position, with Australia 2nd and the Netherlands 3rd also holding their positions in the top three.

In the women’s list, India occupies the ninth spot. The Netherlands is at the top followed by Australia, Argentina, Germany and England.
