Govt approves constitution of 22nd Law Commission

Government has formally announced the constitution of the 22nd Law Commission. The law panel advises the government on complex legal issues and has a term of three years. With the president giving his nod for the creation of the Law Commission, government will now appoint a chairperson to head the panel and other members.

The chairperson usually is a retired Supreme Court judge or a retired chief justice of a high court. The term of the previous commission had ended on August 31, 2018. Union Cabinet had last week given its nod to reconstitute the panel.

Union HRD Minister Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ presents Chatra Vishwakarma Awards 2019

Union HRD Minister Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ presents Vishwakarma Awards 2019 to the winners in New Delhi. The valedictory function of Vishwakarma Awards 2019 was organised in All India Council for Technical Education. A total of 23 teams under various sub- categories were recipient of the Chatra Vishwakarma Awards (CVA). Six institutes were felicitated by the Union Minister under the Utkrisht Santhan Vishwakarma Award (USVA).

The award will boost the efficiency of their particular domains resulting in vital contributions in the direction of the expansion and growth of the Nation as an entire.

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi completes one year

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi(PM-KISAN) scheme completes one year today. This scheme was launched on 24th February 2019 at Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.

Under the Scheme an amount of 6000 rupees per year is transferred in three equal installments of 2000 rupees quarterly directly into the bank accounts farmers.

This scheme is to augment the income of farm families. Over 8.46 crore farmers have been given the benefits of the scheme till 20th of the month.

“PM KISAN” mobile application launched by Agriculture Minister

On the occasion of 1st anniversary of the launch of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar launched PM KISAN mobile application for the further expansion of the scheme. The application also helps the farmers to check their payment status, correct their name along with checking their eligibility for the scheme.

Saudi Arabia hosts G20 finance ministers and central bank governors meeting 2020

The G20 Finance Ministers & Central Bank Governors Meeting was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on 22-23 February 2020 on the theme “Realizing Opportunities of the 21st Century for All”. The meet was chaired by the Saudi Arabia’s finance minister Mohammed al-Jadaan and central bank governor Ahmed al-Kholifey.

The 19 countries are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the UK and the US.

Rick Machar swears in as first Vice President in South Sudan

Rebel leader Riek Machar was sworn in as first vice president of South Sudan. He will serve for a period of 36 months in the transition government.

The rebel leader returns as first vice president in a transition government which will serve for 36 months.

Andhra Pradesh govt launched ‘Jagananna Vasthi Deevena’ scheme for students

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has launched a scheme named ‘Jagananna Vasthi Deevena’ for students pursuing various post-Intermediate courses to meet hostel and mess expenses.

ITI students would get Rs 10,000 each, polytechnic students would get Rs 15,000 and under-graduates and post-graduates Rs 20,000 each.

The students would get the amount in two installments directly in their bank accounts. They will get in February and July every year.

NABARD sanctions over Rs 400 cr to boost infrastructure in J&K

National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned an amount of over 400 crore rupees to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir during the current financial year for giving boost to the infrastructure in the rural areas.

NABARD has also sanctioned 209.87 crore rupees for construction of 82 rural roads and 3 bridges earlier this year.

Rajlaxmi Singh Deo has been elected as president of Rowing Federation of India

Rajlaxmi Singh Deo has been re-elected as the president of the Rowing Federation of India (RFI). The presidential elections of the Rowing Federation of India were conducted under the observation of Indian Olympic Association (IOA)’s K Govindraj. He will remain at the post for four years till 2024.

NITI Aayog has organized 3 days Sustainable Development Goals Conclave 2020 in Guwahati, Assam for Partnerships, Cooperation and Development of North Eastern states.

The inaugural session will be held in presence of all North Eastern State’s Chief Ministers and will have representations from Central Ministries, academia, civil society ad international development organizations for the adoption and monitoring of SDGs at national and sub-national level.

Dr. Niti Kumar to be honoured with SERB Women Excellence Award-2020

Dr Niti Kumar, a Senior Scientist from Division of Molecular Parasitology and Immunology, CSIR-CDRI, Lucknow will be honoured with the SERB Women Excellence Award-2020. Her research team is testing the protein quality control machinery in human malaria parasite for exploration of alternative drug targets for malaria intervention.

The SERB Women Excellence Award-2020 will be conferred by the President of India during the celebrations of National Science Day.

PM Modi inaugurated first-ever Khelo India University Games at Cuttack, Odisha

Prime Minister (PM) Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the first-ever Khelo India University Games at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack, Odisha through video conferencing. Nearly 3,400 athletes from 159 universities across the country will participate in 17 disciplines including rugby which is among the 6 team events.

Khelo India was started in 2018 in order to attract youth towards sports & recognising young talents in every part of the country.

Former Indian Footballer Ashok Chatterjee passes away

Former India footballer Ashok Chatterjee passed away in Kolkata. He was part of the Mederka Cup in which our nation bag’s bronze-medal in 1965 and 1966.

He was honoured with the Mohun Bagan Lifetime Acheivement Award by the football club in 2019.

Former Karnataka Minister C Chennigappa passed away

ormer Karnataka Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader C Chennigappa passed away at the age of 70, in Bengaluru, Karnataka. He hailed from Byranayakanahalli, Nelamangala taluk, Karnataka.

Chennigappa served in the Police Department before entering politics.
