19th edition of World Productivity Congress to be held in Bangalore

The 19th edition of World Productivity Congress (WPC) is scheduled to be held on May 6 to May 8, 2020 at Bangalore, after a gap of 45 years. World Confederation of Productivity Science (WCPS) has been organising this conference since 1969. The Congress was held in India in the year 1974, last time.

The theme of 19th World Productivity Congress is “Industry 4.0 – Innovation and Productivity”

The Congress will promote the development of productivity science through global presentations, speeches and panel discussions.

Shri Narendra Singh Tomar inaugurates the Pusa Krishi Vigyan Mela-2020

The Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar Inaugurated the Pusa Krishi Vigyan Mela-2020 in New Delhi.

Inaugurating the Pusa Krishi Vigyan Mela-2020, He said India has a vast pool of agricultural scientists and specialists graduating from universities every year. “Government can provide funds, subsidies and incentives, but there has to be an interest in farming. For this agriculture has to be made a profitable venture; it should fulfil the nation’s needs, its share in GDP and exports should rise,” he added.

In Madhya Pradesh unique Chilli Festival begins at Kasrawad in Khargone district. Chilli Festival is a big business opportunity for traders, investors and exporters. It will also help in fulfilling the Central Government’s goal of doubling the income of farmers.

Inspired by the famous Corn Festival of Chhindwara district, the Chilli Festival aims to establish Khargone district as the Chilli Capital of North and Central India.

Former Home Affairs Minister, Muhyiddin Yassin, was sworn in as Malaysia’s new Prime Minister. He was appointed following the abrupt resignation of 94-year-old Mahathir Mohamad, who had been in office since the general elections of 2018.

Chairman of Securities & Exchange Board of India (SEBI)Ajay Tyagi gets a 6 month extension from the government, whose tenure of 3 years (from 2017) to end on February 29, 2020. He is an Indian Administrative Officer (IAS) of the Himachal Pradesh Cadre.

Sumant Kathpalia appointed as MD and CEO of Induslnd Bank Ltd

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) appointed Sumant Kathpalia as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Induslnd Bank Ltd. The appointment with effect from 24 March 2020. He will hold the office for a tenure of three years. Kathpalia will replace Romesh Sobti.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was presented the prestigious Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee award 2020 for Politics at the 6th India Ideas Conclave in Gujarat.

The award, instituted by India Foundation, was presented to Chief Minister Sonowal by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar

About Syama Prasad Mukherjee award:

Syama Prasad Mukherjee was born on 6 July 1901. He served as the youngest ever Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University. He is the first Minister of Industry and Supply in independent India.

In 1946, he demanded the partition of Bengal to prevent the inclusion of its Hindu-majority areas in a Muslim-dominated East Pakistan.

Astronomers discovered a mini-moon or planet’s 2nd moon, “Dubbed 2020 CD3”

Mini- moon or planet’s 2nd moon  “Dubbed 2020 CD3” was discovered by  Kacper Wierzchos and Teddy Pruyne of the NASA-funded Catalina Sky Survey (CSS) in Arizona, US.It is an asteroid about the size of the car & its diameter is about 1.9-3.5 metre.

The mini moon is a temporary moon, dissimilar to our permanent moon which will break free of Earth’s orbit & go off on its own way.

India’s fastest woman Dutee Chand Clinched 2nd gold in First Khelo India University Games

India’s fastest woman Dutee Chand won her second gold of the Khelo India University Games after she bagged the top honours in the 200m final here on Sunday.

The 24-year-old, who is representing Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, clinched the gold medal with a timing of 23.66 seconds.

Kirti Vijay Bhoite from the University of Mumbai settled for silver with a timing of 24.98 seconds while Deepali Mahapatra from Utkal University won the bronze, clocking 25.19 seconds.

Rafael Nadal wins Mexican Open title after beating Taylor Fritz

World Number 2 Rafael Nadal captured his first title of the year, defeating unseeded Taylor Fritz in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, in the final of the ATP Mexico Open.

In the women’s final, seventh-seeded Heather Watson captured her first WTA title in three years by grinding out a 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 win over Canadian teen Leylah Fernandez.

Dronacharya awardee athletics coach Joginder Singh Saini passes away

Veteran athletics coach and Dronacharya awardee Joginder Singh Saini, who groomed some of India’s finest track and field stars, died in Patiala.

Saini received the Dronacharya Award in 1997 for his contribution to Indian athletics. He was the chief coach of the Indian athletics team which won 18 medals, including eight golds, at the 1978 Asian Games.

Former India hockey star and Olympic bronze medallist Balbir Singh Kullar passes away

Former India hockey player Balbir Singh Kullar, who was a part of the 1968 Olympics bronze-winning team, has died after suffering a heart attack at his home in Punjab.

He was also a member of the Indian team that won the Asian Games gold in 1966 at Bangkok and the Olympic Bronze in 1968 in Mexico.

The world’s oldest man passes away in Japan at 112

The world’s oldest person, Chitetsu Watanabe of Japan passed away at 112. He was born in 1907 when Japan’s average life expectancy hovered around 40 years.

Less than two weeks before his death, Guinness World Records recognized Watanabe as the world’s oldest man at 112 years and 344 days old
