UGC Let 900 Autonomous Colleges offer Online Degree Courses – Download Details Here. Almost 900 independent schools will be able to offer online degree programmes thanks to the UGC. Only universities are now permitted to provide distant degrees via online courses.

The University Grants Commission, India’s governing and coordinating authority for higher education, has voted to enable 900 more schools to offer online degree programmes to students. This choice was made in order to give pupils with a diverse learning experience. In addition, the decision is in keeping with the goal for online education outlined in the National Educational Policy, NEP 2020. Students will be able to obtain degrees from a distance through online degree courses.

Currently, only universities are permitted to offer remote degrees via online courses, but with this new UGC order, approximately 900 autonomous colleges that have achieved top 100 rankings in their respective subject category twice in the previous three National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings or have an NAAC grade of at least 3.26 will be permitted to offer online degree courses. Colleges do not require previous permission from the UGC, but they must adhere to the UGC’s norms and guidelines.

According to sources, students applying for online degree programmes must have completed Class 12 and be eligible for admission to UG and PG programmes.

The candidates will be evaluated by the National Testing Agency (NTA) either an online proctored mode exam or a computer-based test (CBT). Students in online degree programmes, like those in traditional degree programmes, will be expected to have a minimum of 75% attendance.

Apart from the form of study, online degree programmes will differ significantly from traditional degree programmes in many ways. Remote courses would be more adaptable and provide a wider range of alternatives. In March 2022, UGC is anticipated to provide a full framework.
