NO M.Phil Course for 2022-2023 Academic Year… University Grants Committee Announced. The University Grants Commission has stated that the M.Phil Degree course offered in all the universities will not be valid from the academic year 2022-2023 and the M.Phil Degree program will be discontinued from the next academic year. Only those who have completed their Masters Degree in Universities will be eligible for teaching in Universities and Colleges after completing their M.Phil degree.
These M.Phil courses were introduced in 1977 in all the universities. Those who are in the teaching profession, if they have an MBA degree after masters degree, they also have an M.Phil degree which is convenient for them to get incentives. In this case, the University Grants Commission has now changed the system and brought in a minimum qualification for teaching. So this M.Phil degree has made me unfit for any teaching job.
According to P. Thuraisamy, a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Chennai and a member of the University Grants Committee, the recognition of the degree will be revoked from 2022-2023 if the University’s regulations are approved by the relevant authority.
However, all the state universities including Tamil Nadu have offered opportunities for M.Phil degrees for the academic year 2021-2022. Nagarajan, a consultant to the National and State Level Qualifying Selectors Association, said that many school teachers were studying for the degree in order to get incentives as the M.Phil degree was of no use.
