On Friday, protesters from the Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS, and PRTC Contract Workers Union gathered at the Ludhiana Depot’s bus stop. They were demonstrating against the government’s failure to heed their call for the regularisation of contractual workers’ employment.

The workers at 27 depots in the state organised gate rallies to express their displeasure with the state administration. On the one hand, he claimed, the administration is making grand declarations about regularising the contract workers while disregarding the employees of the Transport Department. He asserted that the government intends to hire more contractual workers on an outsourcing basis rather than regularising their employment.
The government, according to union members Sukhwinder Singh Babbu, Jaspal Sharma, and Daljit Singh:
Wants to privatise the Transport Department in order to benefit private businesses.If their demands were not satisfied, the union members threatened to escalate the protest and stage dharnas in front of the PRTC headquarters in Patiala on September 6, the PUNBUS headquarters in Chandigarh on September 13, and the residence of Transport Minister Punjab on September 20.
