Shri Prahlad Singh Patel to inaugurate an exhibition “Jallianwala Bagh” on 11th March 2020

On the occasion of 130th Foundation Day of National Archives of India, Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism(Independent Charge), Shri Prahlad Singh Patel will inaugurate an exhibition  “Jallianwala Bagh”on 11thMarch 2020 at 5.00 pm at the premises of National Archives, New Delhi.

The National Archives of India is an Attached Office under the Ministry of Culture.  It was established on 11 March 1891 at Kolkata (Calcutta) as the Imperial Record Department.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan chaired 43rd Annual Day of the National Institute of Health & Family Welfare (NIHFW)

The Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr. Harsh Vardhan chaired the 43rd Annual Day of the National Institute of Health & Family Welfare (NIHFW) on 9 March.

The meeting emphasized the role of Ayushman Bharat-Health and Wellness Centres in countering public health challenges through a focus on preventive and positive health.

Ashraf Ghani sworn in for second term as Afghan President

Ashraf Ghani was sworn in as the President of Afghanistan for the second term at a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in Kabul.

The oath-taking ceremony of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani was attended by hundreds of people, including visiting foreign dignitaries, diplomats, and senior political figures. Ghani was declared as the winner of the election held in September 2019.

Andhra Pradesh ranked 1st in country for overall implementation of Poshan Abhiyan

Government is implementing Poshan Abhiyan earlier known as National Nutrition Mission, since 18th December, 2017 to address the problem of malnutrition in the country.

State of Andhra Pradesh ranked 1st in the country for overall implementation of Poshan Abhiyan as per the recent report shared by NITI Aayog.

The goals of Poshan Abhiyan are to achieve improvement in Nutritioinal status of children from 0-6 years, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers in a time bound manner.

Gujarat

Gujarat has highest number of Solar Rooftop Installations

Gujarat has topped solar roof top plants across the country. The state government has taken up dedicated schemes in order to achieve renewable power goals.

  • After Gujarat, Maharashtra topped with solar rooftop power plant installation with more than 5,513 installations.
  • The current solar power capacity of India as of January 2020 is 34.045 GW. India had set target of reaching 20 GW by 2022.

Odisha becomes the 1st state to introduce department for SHGs: “Mission Shakti”

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced that Odisha is the 1st state to own a separate department for Self Help Groups named as ”Mission Shakti”. It is created for the development of women & is dedicated to all the women of Odisha.

Mission Shakti and Mamata Scheme combinedly benefits 70 lakh women

COVA Punjab mobile app launched by Punjab Govt

Chief Secretary of Punjab, Karan Avtar Singh has launched a mobile application, COVA Punjab. COVA stands for Corona Virus Alert.

This app has been developed by the Department of Government Reforms and Public Grievances in consultation with the Health and Family Welfare Department to spread awareness by sharing various travel and preventive care advisories.

Stockholm International Report: India is the second largest importer of arms

The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) recently released its report on “Trends in International arms transfers 2019”. According to the report, India is the second largest arms importer in the world.

  • Russia has remained the top supplier in spite of the fact that Indian Weapons market declined from 72% to 56%.
  • The report also says that the top 5 arms importers in the world include Saudi Arabia, India, Egypt, Australia and China. These 5 countries accounted to 36% of world arms imports.

Moody’s revises India’s growth projections to 5.3% for 2020

Rating agency Moody’s Investors Service has revised its growth projections for India to 5.3 per cent for 2020 from 5.4 per cent, as it expects the coronavirus outbreak to dampen domestic demand globally.

  • Earlier in February, the rating agency had reduced its growth projections for Asia’s largest economy to 5.4 per cent from 6.6 per cent.

Nupur Kulshrestha becomes Indian Coast Guard’s first woman DIG

 

Nupur Kulshrestha becomes the first woman to be promoted as DIG of Indian Coast Guard. She joined Indian Coast Guard in 1999.

  • ICG was established by the Coast Guard Act, 1978 of the Parliament of India as an independent Armed force of India & is operated under the Ministry of defence.

Hockey India 3rd annual awards 2019 in New Delhi; Manpreet singh, Rani rampal wins Player of the year awards

National team captains Manpreet Singh and Rani Rampal on Sunday won the Dhruv Batra Player of the Year Award 2019 in the men’s and women’s categories respectively at the third Hockey India Annual Awards.

Manpreet and Rani received a cash award of Rs 25 lakh each, besides trophies.

Among other awards, Olympic gold medalist Harbinder Singh won the prestigious Major Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award 2019 for his outstanding contribution to the sport.

Six-time world champion MC Mary Kom  (51 kg) and world no. one Amit Panghal (52kg) are among three Indian boxers who secured Olympic berths by advancing to semi-finals of the Asian Qualifiers at Amman in Jordan.

ATP, WTA tennis tournament cancelled over coronavirus concerns

The ATP and WTA tennis tournament in Indian Wells, California, has been cancelled amid new coronavirus outbreak, making it the first major sports event to be scrubbed due to health concerns.

The tournament, one of the biggest outside the four tennis Grand Slams, was cancelled just days before it was due to begin.

Senior Congress leader Hans Raj Bhardwaj passes away

Former Law Minister and senior Congress leader Hans Raj Bhardwaj (83-years) passed away at the Max Hospital, Saket, New Delhi.

  • Hans Raj Bhardwaj was born in Garhi Sampla village in Rohtak district of Haryana.
  • He was a Rajya Sabha member for five terms from April 1982 to June 2009.
  • He was appointed the governor of Karnataka in 2009.

CPIM MLA N Vijayan Pillai dies at 65

Communist Party of India (Marxist) MLA from Chavara constituency N Vijayan Pillai died at a hospital in Kochi.

  • He served as the Kollam district panchayat vice president, Kollam Cooperative district bank’s vice president and Kollam District Human Resource Co-operative Society president from 2000 to 2005
  • In 2016 – elected to the Kerala assembly defeating Shibu Baby John (RSP leader).
