Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin Order on Remdesivir Supply Protocol: Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin announced that the Remdesivir which is a drug used for corona infections will be distributed to hospitals directly. The new order will come into effect from May 18. As per the revised protocol, the hospitals that are treating patients have to procure the medicine by sending their own representatives. Current Remdesivir Supply Chain:
Studies have been done on improving the system of administering Remdesivir to patients suffering from infections. As per the study, adequate medication is being provided to patients getting treatment in government hospitals. And the patients who are treated in private hospitals in Tamil Nadu are getting the medicines through hospitals and directly to the families of the infected.
This made the medical centers crowd. Because of this the social distance is not maintained by the people in the medical shops which supply the “Remdesivir”. And there is a chance of selling of this medicine in the black market. In order to reduce the inconvenience to the general public, MK Stalin advised that the current system should be changed and that medicine should be provided only through hospitals.
Need to Change:
As per the new order of CM, the families of the infected shouldn’t be given a prescription to buy it by the hospitals. But the private hospitals that are treating patients have to procure the medicine by sending their own representatives to the centers allotted by the government.
Implementation of the new system:
In order to facilitate the dispensing of medicines, all private hospitals in Tamil Nadu are directed to report the need for medicine along with the details of the patients receiving oxygen treatment in their hospitals. Once the medicine is allocated to the hospitals, only the representatives of that hospital can go to the specific sales outlets and get the medicines. Details about the website will be released soon. The Tamil Nadu government has warned that legal action will be taken against hospitals and those who unnecessarily dispense prescriptions to patients.
