In accordance with the provisions of sub-section (1) of section 23 of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 (RTE Act), the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has vide Notifications dated 23rd August 2010, 29th July 2011 and 28th June 2018 laid down the minimum qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher in classes I to VIII. It had been inter alia provided that one of the essential qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher in any of the schools referred to in clause (n) of section 2 of the RTE Act is that he/she should pass the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) which will be conducted by the appropriate Government in accordance with the guidelines framed by the NCTE.
Teachers Recruitment Board has been designated as the Nodal Agency for conducting Teacher Eligibility Test as per G.O.Ms.No.181, School Education (C2) Department, dated: 15.11.2011.

Qualifications to write TNTET
Education Qualifications to write TNTET Paper-I (for classes I-V):
1. Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known). |

2. Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known) in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations, 2002. |
Or |
3. Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.). |
Or |
4. Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Education (Special Education). |
Or |
5. Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in
Elementary Education (by whatever name known). |

How to apply TNTET 2020:
- Candidates should apply only through online mode in the TRB website http://trb.tn.nic.in
- Use separate applications for Paper-I and Paper-II.
- Candidates should ensure that they have their scanned recent color passport size photograph (JPG/JPEG /PNG format of size 20-60 kB) and signature (JPG/JPEG/PNG format of size 10-30 kB) separately. The online application uploaded without the photograph and signature will be

Examination Fees For TNTET 2020:
- The Examination fee is Rs. 500/- for all the candidates except SC, SCA, ST and Person with Disability. For SC, SCA, ST and Person with Disability Candidates, the examination fee is Rs. 250/-. The date, time, and center for the Written Examination will be indicated in the Hall Ticket. The Hall Tickets for the eligible candidates will be uploaded by the TRB in its official website. The decision of the Teachers Recruitment Board on the eligibility of the candidate to appear for the examination will be final.
Centre for Examination:
Examination will be held in all districts. Candidates should appear for the Examination at their own expenses. The Board reserves the right to increase or decrease the number of examination centers and to re-allot the candidates for administrative reasons.
General Information of TNTET:
- Candidates who have secured 60% and above in the TNTET (Paper-I/ Paper-II) Examination will be issued with TNTET (Paper-I/ Paper-II) Pass Certificate. However, relaxation of 5% marks will be given to BC, BC(M), MBC/DNC, SC, SC(A), ST and Person with Disability
- TET Certificate will be valid for 7 (seven)
- The mere holding of a TET certificate does not confer any right to appointment as it is only one of the eligibility criteria for
- As per G.O.(Ms)No.149, School Education (TRB) Department dated 20.07.2018, TET qualified candidates has to appear for a separate competitive examination related to recruitment.
