TAMILNADU TEACHER ELIGIBILITY TEST (TNTET) – 2020 NOTIFICATION

In accordance with the provisions of sub-section (1) of section 23 of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 (RTE Act), the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has vide Notifications dated 23rd August 2010, 29th July 2011 and 28th June 2018 laid down the minimum qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher in classes I to VIII. It had been inter alia provided that one of the essential qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher in any of the schools referred to in clause (n) of section 2 of the RTE Act is that he/she should pass the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) which will be conducted by the appropriate Government in accordance with the guidelines framed by the NCTE.

Teachers Recruitment Board has been designated as the Nodal Agency for conducting Teacher Eligibility Test as per G.O.Ms.No.181, School Education (C2) Department, dated: 15.11.2011.

Qualifications to write TNTET

Education  Qualifications to write TNTET Paper-I (for classes I-V):

1. Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known).
Or
2. Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known) in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations, 2002.
Or
3. Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.).
Or
4. Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Education (Special Education).
Or
5. Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in

Elementary Education (by whatever name known).

Or
6. Graduation with atleast 50% marks and passed or appearing in final

year of Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.,).

Education Qualifications to write TNTET Paper-II (for classes VI-VIII).

1. Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known).
Or
2. Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final

year of Bachelor in Education (B.Ed.).

Or
3. Graduation with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in final year  of  Bachelor  in   Education   (B.Ed.),   in   accordance  with   the   NCTE

(Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations.

Or
4. Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and

passed or appearing in final year of 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.).

Or
5. Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and

passed or appearing in final year of 4-year B.A/B.Sc. Ed or B.A. Ed./B.Sc. Ed.

Or
6. Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final

year of B.Ed. (Special Education).

7. Any candidate having qualified B.Ed. programme, recognized by the NCTE is eligible to appear in TET. Moreover, as per existing TET guidelines circulated vide NCTE letter dated 11.02.2011, a person who is pursuing any of the teacher education courses (recognized by the NCTE or the RCI, as the case may be) specified in the NCTE Notification dated 23rd August 2010 is also qualified to appear in the TET.

  1. Child Development and pedagogy will focus on Educational Psychology of Teaching and Learning, relevant to the age group of 6 – 11
  2. Language I will focus on the proficiencies related to the Medium of Instruction. The candidate has to choose any one of the languages mentioned in Sl.No.(ii) above in Paper-I table. For recruitment process candidates shall be eligible for the vacancies in the concerned medium only
  3. Language II English will focus on the elements of language, communication and comprehension
  4. Mathematics and Environmental Studies will focus on the concepts, problem solving abilities and pedagogical understanding of these
  5. The questions in the TET Paper I will be based on the topics of the prescribed syllabus of the State for Classes I – V but their difficulty level, as well as linkages, will be up to the Secondary

How to apply TNTET 2020:

  1. Candidates should apply only through online mode in the TRB website http://trb.tn.nic.in
  2. Use separate applications for Paper-I and Paper-II.
  3. Candidates should ensure that they have their scanned recent color passport size photograph (JPG/JPEG /PNG format of size 20-60 kB) and signature (JPG/JPEG/PNG format of size 10-30 kB) separately. The online application uploaded without the photograph and signature will be
  4. A valid e-mail id and Mobile Number are mandatory for registration and e-mail id should be kept active till the declaration of results.
  5. All the particulars mentioned in the online application including name of the candidate, paper applied, communal category, date of birth, address and all other fields will be considered as final. Candidates are requested to fill the online application form with utmost care and caution as no correspondence regarding change of details will be entertained. Incomplete or defective applications shall be summarily rejected. No representation or correspondence regarding such rejection shall be entertained under any circumstances.

Examination Fees For TNTET 2020:

  1. The Examination fee is Rs. 500/- for all the candidates except SC, SCA, ST and Person with Disability. For SC, SCA, ST and Person with Disability Candidates, the examination fee is Rs. 250/-. Since the examination fee is different for various categories, candidates are advised to enter the correct Community / Person with Disability category. Once the payment is made, it will not be

Written Examination:

The date, time, and center for the Written Examination will be indicated in the Hall Ticket. The Hall Tickets for the eligible candidates will be uploaded by the TRB in its official website. The candidates are advised to refer to the   TRB   website for details   (http://www.trb.tn.nic.in). No written communication will be sent to the candidate.

The decision of the Teachers Recruitment Board on the eligibility of the candidate to appear for the examination will be final.

Centre for Examination:

Examination will be held in all districts. Candidates should appear for the Examination at their own expenses. The Board reserves the right to increase or decrease the number of examination centers and to re-allot the candidates for administrative reasons.

General Information of TNTET:

  1. Candidates who have secured 60% and above in the TNTET (Paper-I/ Paper-II) Examination will be issued with TNTET (Paper-I/ Paper-II) Pass Certificate. However, relaxation of 5% marks will be given to BC, BC(M), MBC/DNC, SC, SC(A), ST and Person with Disability
  2. TET Certificate will be valid for 7 (seven)
  3. The mere holding of a TET certificate does not confer any right to appointment as it is only one of the eligibility criteria for
  4. As per G.O.(Ms)No.149, School Education (TRB) Department dated 20.07.2018, TET qualified candidates has to appear for a separate competitive examination related to  recruitment.
