Over 7 lakh first time voters in Assam

  • In Assam, over seven lakh first time voters will cast their vote in the forthcoming General Election, which will be held in three phases in the state. Assam has 14 Lok Sabha seats.
Folk-cultural rally in Nalbari to promote voters awareness
  • In Assam, as a part of the unique and innovative approach being initiated by Nalbari District Administration to promote voters awareness, a folk-cultural rally was taken out at Nalbari.
  • The folk cultural troupes including Dhuliya, Ojha paali, Puppetry, Naam party and Biya naam promoted awareness among the voters and brought to town a festive gear for the ensuing Lok Sabha election. Campus Ambassadors appointed to woo young voters
  • Campus Ambassadors have been appointed to woo young voters in Assam ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. 12 Campus Ambassadors would carry out various awareness activities including street plays, poster making, VVPAT demonstration in educational institutes in the district.

Enajori initiative

  • Assam Chief Electoral Officer Mukesh Sahu launched the Enajori initiative in Guwahati. It is a special initiative for persons with disabilities with an aim that ‘No Voter to be Left behind’.
  • It is a joint initiative of CEO Assam and Social Welfare Department with an objective to make Lok Sabha Elections accessible to Persons with Disability, PwD voters.

  • The satellite targeted with an Anti-Satellite (ASAT) missile under Mission Shakti has broken up into at least 270 pieces, most of which are expected to disintegrate within 45 days.
  • The satellite has disintegrated into at least 270 pieces which has also been confirmed by the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD).

  • Delhi court sent Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist Sajjad Khan, a close aide of Pulwama attack mastermind Muddasir to NIA custody till March 29.

Goa CM Manohar Parrikar passes away at 63
  • Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar passed away in Panaji after a prolonged illness. A six-time MLA and former Defence Minister, Mr Parrikar was born on 13th December, 1955. He graduated from Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai with a B.Tech degree in metallurgical engineering. Mr Parrikar was first elected to the Goa assembly in 1994.
  • He served as a Rajya Sabha MP from November 2014 to September 2017. The popular leader would be remembered for his efforts in infrastructure and education development in the state and bringing the International Film Festival of India to Goa in 2004.

  • BJP led Goa government under new chief minister Pramod Sawant won the floor test in the legislative assembly by 20 to 15 votes.

Dipak Pauskar sworn in as Cabinet Minister

  • In Goa, Dipak Pauskar was sworn in as a Cabinet Minister by Governor Mridula Sinha at the Raj Bhavan in Dona Paula. Pauskar replaces deputy Chief Minister Sudin Dhavalikar in the Council of Ministers.

  • A Centre for Disability Sports will be set up at Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh.   • Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath has decided to include Gondi in the primary education curriculum of the state’s tribal-dominated districts.

  • In Madhya Pradesh, the state government has announced to give five thousand rupees each to all the cleanliness employees of six clean cities of as honorarium for their excellent work.
  • The six cities Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, Khargone, Nagda and Bhopal having included in the top 20 clean cities in 4237 cities of the country.

MP govt issues ordinance to give 27% quota to OBCs

  • Maharashtra government will appoint a Lokpal in all universities except agricultural universities to resolve student grievances. Maharashtra would be the first state in the country to have such a Lokpal for universities.

  • Maharashtra Chief Minister DevendraFadnavis unveiled the state’s new 5-year industrial policy emphasising on high-technology and employment generating businesses. The policy, which will be effective from 1st of April this year, aims to attract investments worth 10 lakh crore rupees.

Polling hours extended in Madurai Lok Sabha constituency

  • In Madurai Lok Sabha constituency, polling hours are being extended by an additional two hours. Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo gave the information in Chennai. The decision comes following a demand in view of popular Kallazhagar festival in the city, in which lakhs of people converge every year.
Supreme Court considering report on elephant corridors
  • The Supreme Court is considering a report filed by its amicus curiae to direct States through which elephant corridors run to submit voluntary relocation/rehabilitation plans for people who live in these eco-sensitive zones.
  • In Tamil Nadu, a report submitted by the Nilgiris Collector in the apex court in August 2018 revealed that 821 buildings, constructions, occupancies had encroached on the notified corridor.

Nutrition boost for adolescent girls

  • In a move to address nutritional problem among adolescent girls, the International Crops Research Institute for Semi Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) and National Institute of Nutrition (NIN), a wing of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), launched a project called ‘Iron for Adolescents’ or ‘FeFA’ . The term FeFa has been chosen as Fe is the symbol of iron while ‘FA stands for For Adolescents’.

Corn cob drying facility launched

  • Kaveri Seeds which develops quality hybrids of key Indian crops has announced the commencement of its corn cob drying facility at Molangur in Karimnagar. The plant is Asia’s largest and the first of its kind cob dryer.

  • Drastic fall in Singur water levels drives animals out. Diversion of Singur water to Sriram Sagar Project in Rajanna-Sircilla district about two years ago had its adverse impact not only on the farm sector and drinking water but also on animals.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 17 developments projects worth 538 crore rupees at Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. These projects include a factory to manufacture AK 203 rifles, the latest version in Kalashnikov series with Russian collaboration.

  • In Uttar Pradesh, 49 days long Kumbh 2019 the largest religious congregation in the world, concluded with over one crore devotees taking the holy dip at Sangam in Prayagraj on the occasion of ‘Mahashivratri’.

PM inaugurates Civil Terminal at Hindon airport, Metro projects in Lucknow & Ghaziabad

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Hindon Airport Civil Terminal in Ghaziabad. He also inaugurated Dilshad Garden – Shaheed Sthal Section of Delhi Metro Red Line and foundation stone of Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System RRTS. It will be the first RRTS of the country being built at a cost of 30 thousand crore rupees.
