Andhra will soon have a women protection wing

  • An exclusive State-level women protection wing will be set soon to handle cases/complaints pertaining to them, Minister for Home and Disaster Management M. Sucharita has said. It will be headed by a senior officer and be vested with powers to handle issues such as harassment, eve teasing, dowry cases, and missing of minors. A toll-free number will also be allotted to the wing.

UN project to benefit thousands of families

  • The Andhra Pradesh State Forest Department has identified nine landscapes, including marshes to support climate resilience of thousands of coastal families under the United Nations Development Programme’s Green Climate Fund (GCF).
  • The States of Maharashtra, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh have been chosen under the UNDP and granted the GCF of over Rs.298 crore for the six-year project that commences this year. Some 25 landscapes have been identified for the project and of them nine fall in Andhra Pradesh.

NGT stays AP government’s Godavari-Penna interlinking projects

  • The National Green Tribunal has stayed the Andhra Pradesh government’s Godavari-Penna interlinking projects due to lack of environmental clearance. A bench of NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said that the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board has failed to perform its duty to take appropriate action as per law.

Assam govt to provide subsidy for admission in North East Skill Centre

  • Assam government to provide a subsidy of 1.7 lakh rupees for the admission in the North East Skill Centre. Mission Director of the Assam Skill Development Mission AP Tiwari said that the total course fees of the first batch students would be around 2.2 lakh rupees. He said that 400 students would get admission in the first batch.

Assam government to set up Skill University at Darrang district

  • Assam government will set up a Skill University at the cost of 850 crore rupees at Darrang district. Mission Director of Assam Skill Development Mission, AP Tiwari said that the proposed institution will be known as Skill City. This will be perhaps the first skill university of the country with a capacity of 10 thousand seat.

Tea auction to go digital in Assam

  • Tea auction is set to take the e-route to Jorhat, more than a century after the eastern Assam town came to be known as the capital of India’s tea industry. mjunction Services Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tea Board of India to design, develop, implement and maintain an e-auction platform at Jorhat, about 300 km east of Guwahati.

Assam to study link of pesticides with emerging diseases

  • Concerned over increasing cases of affliction of new diseases in Assam, the State Government is planning to write to the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) for a study on impact of use of pesticides and fertilizers in food items in the health indices.
  • The Minister also announced the launch of Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme in the state from 14th of this month, in Private-Public Partnership mode with Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd, Chennai. The free dialysis facility will be available in 18 locations in Assam.

  • In Assam, the day-long Domestic Workers Skill Conclave of North East chapter was held in Guwahati. The conclave is to provide a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences amongst a wide range of agencies, institutions, associations, enterprises and experts. The first ever conclave is organized by the National Skill Development Corporation, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Assam Skill Development Mission.

Irrigation Dept to implement soon minor irrigation scheme ‘Har Khet Ko Pani’

  • In Assam, with a view to improve farm productivity and ensure better utilisation of water resources, Irrigation Department would implement soon minor irrigation scheme ‘Har Khet Ko Pani’.  This initiative to increase access to ground water would be implemented under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana and will cover 14 districts in the first phase

  • Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced free travel for women in public transport to improve safety and accessibility. women will be allowed to travel free of cost on all DTC buses, cluster buses and metro trains. Mr Kejriwal also announced the installation of CCTVs cameras in the city from 8th of June.

24X7 helpline for medical students

  • The Indian Medical Association is planning to set up counselling centres at all medical colleges and teaching institutions and a 24×7 helpline to help students deal with mental health issues. The IMA has launched an initiative named Doctors 4 Doctors (D4D) aimed at preventing burn out, addressing mental health challenges and reducing incidents of suicide among residents and clinicians.

Swachh Survekshan 2020

  • Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri launched Swachh Survekshan 2020 League in New Delhi. The objective of the Swachh Survekshan survey, which is conducted by an independent third party, is to encourage large scale citizen participation, ensure sustainability of initiatives taken towards garbage free and open defecation free cities and create awareness amongst all sections of society about the importance of working together towards making towns and cities a better place to live in.

Hardeep Puri inaugurates Central ATFM Complex

  • Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of State (I/c) for Civil Aviation inaugurated the Air Traffic Flow Management – Central Command Centre at Vasant Kunj, New Delhi. The C-ATFM system is primarily meant to address the balancing of capacity against the demand to achieve optimum utilization of the major resources viz., airport, airspace and aircraft at every Indian airport where there is a capacity constraint.
  • The C-ATFM system integrates flight data from various subsystems like ATC Automation System, flight updates and flight update messages. The system also displays weather information along with static information about airports, airspaces and air routes. The system processes the demand and capacity information and provides decision-making tools to the ATFM Flow Manager for collaborative decision making and to ensure regulated flow of traffic at each airport in India.

  • Culture Minister Prahalad Singh Patel was inaugurated the exhibition titled Unknown Masterpieces of Himachal Folk Art at National Museum in New Delhi. The Exhibition is being jointly organised by the National Museum and Home of Folk Art, Gurugram in which more than 240 artefacts will be on display. The aim of the exhibition is to highlight the Folk art tradition of Himachal Pradesh.

  • The government will launch the Go Tribal Campaign in New Delhi to promote the use of tribal handicrafts and natural products. Tribal Affairs Ministry said TRIFED has organized this event to institutionalize collaborations and partnerships with different organizations to promote tribal products.

  • The city of palaces Mysuru in Karnataka is chosen one among the five cities for holding the national programme of the International Yoga Day this year. The cultural capital of Karnataka, Mysuru is gearing up for hosting the International Yoga Day on June 21st.

Udupi’s Amasebailu becomes Karnataka’s first solar-powered Gram Panchayat

  • Amasebailu in Kundapura Taluk of Udupi district has become Karnataka’s first solar-powered Gram Panchayat. Over 1800 houses were provided solar lamps at a total cost of 2.13 crore rupees. The project was funded by Centre and State Government in the ratio of 30:20 and the rest was paid by the Panchayat and charitable organizations.

Water ATMs to shift to smart card mode

  • All drinking water ATMs will soon shift from coin-based service to smart card-based system.The State Cabinet decided to outsource management of the ATMs to private agencies taluk-wise for ensuring round-the-clock availability of safe drinking water to people. Now, 600 to 800 ATMs remain out of order on any given day owing to technical glitches. There are 18,000 ATMs in the State and 16,000 of them are functional.

Yakshagana episodes to debut in Marathi soon

  • A team of Yakshagana enthusiasts from Pune have been attempting to write and perform Yakshagana episodes in Marathi. “Yakshagana is an energetic and attractive art form.
  • Yakshagana is a traditional theatre form, developed in Udupi, in the state of Karnataka (India), that combines dance, music, dialogue, costume, make-up, and stage techniques with a unique style and form. It is believed to have evolved from pre-classical music and theater during the period of the Bhakti movement

 National virology institute at Alappuzha to be upgraded soon

  • The National Institute of Virology at Alappuzha, still struggling to find its functional reliability for testing various viral diseases, will be scaled up in the coming months. Besides, the State had also started a virology institute in Thiruvananthapuram under the Science and Technology department and a virology institute under ICMR has also been set up in Kozhikode.However, none of them have the capability to take up work to meet the State’s needs.

  • In Kerala, a 23-year-old college student has been infected with the Nipah virus. The Centre has dispatched a six-member team to Kerala to tackle the NIPAH virus outbreak. Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan assured all possible support from the Centre.
  • Nipah virus is transmitted from animals to humans and spreads through contact. It is associated with fatal encephalitis and respiratory illness. There is no known vaccine against the virus.

Women’s employment rate higher than national average in kerala

  • Women’s presence in public sector jobs in the State is yet to touch the 40% mark. In the private sector, it is slightly more than half, Labour Minister T.P. Ramakrishnan has said. women accounted for 3.4 lakh employees in the private sector, or 50.1%, slightly more than men. These figures revealed that the number of employed women in the State was higher than that indicated in the Labour Force Survey of the Central government which put their share of work force at 30.8%. Even that is higher than the national average of 23.7%,

India’s first solar-powered cruise boat to be rolled out in December

  • Kerala is gearing up for the launch of the country’s premier solar-powered cruise boat Aditya by December. A Rs. 3 crore cruise boat that can carry 100 passengers is under construction at a boatyard in Aroor. The hybrid vessel will be powered by a motor that can source energy from solar panels, battery, and generator.

Chief Minister’s Employment Generation Programme for MSMEs in Maharshtra

  • State Development Commissioner (Industries) Dr Harshadeep Kamble said today Maharashtra government will soon launch the Chief Minister’s Employment Generation Programme for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), which will create 10 lakh jobs in the next five years. The flagship programme of the Industries Department will have 30 per cent reservation for women entrepreneurs.

  • A call center ­has been set up by the Mumbai office of the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) to address doubts/queries/questions of exporters and importers. General information about foreign trade policy and international trade may also be asked.

 Maharashtra to get floating solar power generation plants on four dams

  • Maharashtra is all set to get floating solar power generation plants on four dams. State Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan told the Legislative Council that the backwater of Wardha, Bebala, Khadakpurna and Pentakli dams has been selected for setting up the floating solar panels as per the Swiss Challenge method. He informed that the estimated investment per megawatt is 4.45 crore rupees, with a total installed capacity of 500 MW.

  • The Maharashtra government will soon set up its vigilance mechanism to ensure fast redressal of grievances regarding drought mitigation. The Minister informed that the government will keep strict vigilance through tehsil and district level committees to ensure officials are available for farmers. He said that the state government will recommend changes in the parameters for the compensation payment.

 Two women from MP successfully climb Mount Everest

  • Two women of Madhya Pradesh have successfully climbed Mount Everest recently. Bhawna Dehariya from Chhindwara district and Megha Parmar from Sehore district became the first two women mountaineers from Madhya Pradesh to summit Mount Everest. They achieved the feat on May 22.

MP to implement Right to Water

  • In Madhya Pradesh, the state government is going to implement the ‘Right to Water’ to ensure availability of water to the people of the state for the whole year. Under the initiative, the government will provide a pre-decided quantity of water to any family.
  • Madhya Pradesh government also bring the ‘Nal-Jal’ scheme and will take financial help from NABARD and Asian Bank for the purpose.

 Odisha government decides to provide transportation cost to students

  • In a bid to improve attendance in schools in Odisha, thestate government has decided to provide transportation cost to students whostay more than a kilometre away from their schools. Officials said, only students with an attendance of more than30 per cent will get the transportation allowance. The decision was taken at areview meeting chaired by School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash.

Studying Olive Ridleys in Odisha

  • A proposal has been made to establish a permanent research centre near the Rushikulya rookery on the Odisha coast to study the mass nesting of Olive Ridleys and the environmental factors related to it. The research centre is expected to be established at a cost of more than 9 crore. The Forest Department is planning to have it in the Khallikote forest range, which is near the Rushikulya rookery.
  • The centre would be involved in a detailed study of the habits and the habitat of the turtles and the coastal flora and fauna.

Odisha to offer millet in public distribution system

  • In a bid to promote nutritious millet and give a push to the tribal economy, the Odisha government has decided to offer one kilogram ragi (millet) at Rs.1 per kg per card holder through the public distribution system.

Free Wi-Fi in all railway stations likely by September

  • A total of 218 more stations in Southern Railway will offer free Wi-Fi connectivity to passengers by the first week of September, taking the number of stations with the facility to 500 in the zone. This is part of a scheme to provide access to the internet at 4,791 stations across the country. Google is likely to provide the solution for Authorising, Authenticating and Accounting of customers accessing the Wi-Fi, which will initially be of 1 Mbps speed.

 Avadi announced as 15th municipal corporation

  • In Tamil Nadu, a new Municipal Corporation has been formed. Avadi, a Chennai suburb, has been announced as the fifteenth municipal corporation in the state. The ordinance says, growing population in Avadi, rising income levels and the increasing demand for more civic services necessitate the upgradation of the municipality into a corporation.

  • Tamil Nadu has slipped six places in the health index released by NITI Aayog. The State has registered the largest decline in its ranking, from third in 2015-16 to ninth in 2017-2018.

Tamil Nadu Health System Reform Program

  • The Government of India, Government of Tamil Nadu (GoTN) and the World Bank signed here today in New Delhi a $287 Million Loan Agreement for the Tamil Nadu Health System Reform Program.
  • The Program aims to improve the quality of health care, reduce the burden of Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs), and fill equity gaps in reproductive and child health services in the State of Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu ranks third among all Indian States in the NITI Aayog Health Index which is reflected in vastly improved health outcomes.

 Telangana celebrates State formation day 

  • June 2 is celebrated each year as Telangana State Formation Day to mark the official formation of India’s youngest state in 2014 after its bifurcation from Andhra Pradesh. This year marks the fifth Telangana State Formation Day. Telangana became the 29th state of the country after the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act was passed in the Parliament.

Mega Kaleshwaram project becomes operational

  • Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP), claimed as the world’s largest multi-stage and multi-purpose lift irrigation scheme, was inaugurated by Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at Medigadda where the first barrage of the project is located in Jayashankar-Bhupalapally district .
  • The project is intended to irrigate over 37 lakh acres of new and existing ayacut, providing drinking water to Hyderabad and villages en route and supplying water for industrial needs by lifting 195 tmc ft of water from the Godavari at 2 tmc ft a day during the flood season.

Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan sworn-in as Chief Justice of Telangana High Court

  • Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan was sworn-in as Chief Justice of Telangana High Court in Hyderabad. Governor ESL Narasimhan administered the oath of office to Justice Chauhan at Raj Bhavan. Justice Chauhan is the second Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court after the bifurcation of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh High Court last year.

Healthcare to tribal heartland in Telangana

  • The campaign mode health screening of almost the entire population of Kolam, Thotti and Manne Adivasis, classified as Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), in the agency areas governed by Utnoor Integrated Tribal Development Agency is a big step forward in improving healthcare for tribals in undivided Adilabad district.

A team of super speciality doctors from Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad, are involved in the programme which includes treatment of patients, made possible under the Union government’s Conservation cum Development Plan for the PVTGs.

Asia’s biggest open-to-sky surge pool in Telangana

  • As part of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP), the “Asia’s biggest open-to-sky Surge pool” was constructed in Thippapur village of Illanthakunta mandal. Measuring 92 m deep and 56 m diameter, the surge pool was constructed to store one tmc ft of water and lifts the same through motors to the Ananthagiri Reservoir in Siddipet and later to the Mallannasagar project.
