South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn Retires from Test Cricket

  • Dale Steyn, the legendary South African pacer, has announced his retirement from Test cricket. Steyn made his debut in 2004 against England. He remains South Africa’s leading wicket-taker in Tests.

India tops latest ICC Test rankings

  • India topped the latest ICC Test team rankings while New Zealand is placed 2nd and South Africa is in 3rd position. India skipper Virat Kohli retains his number one position in the latest ICC Test batsmen’s ranking

BCCI agrees to come under the ambit of NADA

  • The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) agreed to come under the ambit of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA). This landmark decision makes Indian Cricket’s governing body a sports federation as per government norms despite being financially autonomous.

Women’s cricket to be part of Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games

  • The Commonwealth Games Federation announced that women’s T20 Cricket has been confirmed for inclusion at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022.
  • Eight teams will compete across eight match days, as cricket returns to the Commonwealth Games for the first time since 1998 when South Africa won the gold medal in a men’s 50-over format competition in Kuala Lumpur.

Kohli becomes first to score 20,000 international runs in a decade

  • India skipper Virat Kohli became the first batsman to score 20,000 international runs in 10 years. Kohli scored his second consecutive century to help India beat West Indies by six wickets in the third and final ODI.

Indian team retain top-spot in ICC test rankings

  • Indian skipper Virat Kohli retained the top spot in the latest  Test batsmen’s rankings released by the International Cricket Council in Dubai today. Australia’s Steve Smith moved to the second position.India are on top of the team table with 113 points followed by New Zealand 111 points and South Africa 108 points.

  • Indian women’s football team will face Villareal CF in its starting match in the 2019 COTIF Cup in Valencia, Spain.

  • Football Giant East Bengal Club turns 100 years on August 01 . On this day in 1920 East Bengal Club was established at Kumartuli Park in North Kolkata.

 Guwahati, Kolkata to host World Cup Qualifiers

  • All India Football Federation (AIFF) general secretary Kushal Das confirmed to Sportstar that Guwahati’s Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium and Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium will host the Indian football team’s opening two World Cup Qualifiers home matches.

Indian women’s team handed special third-placed trophy in COTIF Cup

  • Impressed with the Indian women’s football team’s performance in the COTIF Cup in Valencia, the tournament’s president handed the players a special third-placed trophy. India played four matches in the COTIF Cup, out of which they won two.

  • In football, Gokulam Kerala FC won the 129th Durand Cup, defeating heavyweights Mohun Bagan 2-1 at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.

25th Senior Women’s National Football Championship

  • The 25th Senior Women’s National Football Championship will be held in Arunachal Pradesh for the first time from September 10 to 24 next month. The tournament will be held in the oldest town of the state Pasighat in East Siang District. A total of 30 teams from across the country, representing various States, Union Territories and Indian Railways will participate in the tournament.

  • Indian boxers have ended their campaign at the Magomed Salam Umakhanov Memorial International Boxing Tournament in Kaspiysk, Russia with a rich haul of six medals.

Women’s world boxing championships

  • Six-time world champion M C Mary Kom and Lovlina Borgohain have been selected for the upcoming women’s world boxing championships based on their recent performances. The world championships are scheduled from October 3 to 13 in Russia.

India’s junior women boxers win 4 gold medals at Serbian tourney

  • India’s junior women boxers clinched 12 medals at the third Nation’s Cup in Vrbas, Serbia. The team won four gold, four silver and four bronze medals and claimed the runners-up trophy. Over 160 boxers from 20 countries participated in this tournament, for which India sent a 13-member squad.

Aishwary wins gold at Sardar Sajjan Singh Sethi memorial shooting

  • In Shooting, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar clinched a yellow metal in Men’s Rifle 3 Positions (3P) at 12th Sardar Sajjan Singh Sethi Memorial Masters competition in New Delhi today.

Adarsh Singh wins double gold in shooting meet

  • In Shooting, young Adarsh Singh outclassed his rivals in the Sardar Sajjan Singh Sethi Memorial Masters competition, winning the gold medal in both the men and junior 25 metres rapid fire pistol event in New Delhi.

India bags gold in 10 meter air pistol event in Shooting World Cup

  • In shooting, Abhishek Verma won the gold medal and Saurabh Chaudhary the bronze, in a dominant display by Indian shooters in the men’s 10m air pistol event of the World Cup at Rio de Janeiro. India were placed at the top of the medals tally with two gold, one silver and a bronze.

Vinesh Phogat wins third successive gold in 53kg

  • Star India grappler Vinesh Phogat has bagged gold in women’s 53kg category of the Poland Open wrestling tournament in Warsaw.. This was her third consecutive gold in the 53 kg category after winning Gold at Grand Prix of Spain and at the Yasar Dogu International at Istanbul, Turkey

 Satwiksairaj, Chirag 1st Indian doubles pair to win Super 500 title

  • Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty became the first Indian pair to win a BWF Super 500 badminton tournament. They beat World champions Li Jun Hui and Liu Yu Chen of China in the summit clash of Thailand in Bangkok to win the men’s doubles category.

Hungarian Grand Prix

  • Formula One leader Lewis Hamilton hunted down Max Verstappen to win the Hungarian Grand Prix for a record-extending seventh time and surge 62 points clear in the championship standings.

Hinako Shibuno wins British Open

  • Japan’s Hinako Shibuno won a thrilling women’s British Open. She became the second Japanese to win a Major, joining Chako Higuchi, who won the 1977 women’s PGA Championship.

India beats Chinese Taipei in World junior squash championship

  • India began its campaign on a fluent note with a 3-0 win over Chinese Taipei in Group-C in the girls’ team event in the World junior squash championship.

Rankireddy-Shetty jump seven spots in badminton rankings

  • In Badminton, Indian men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty jumped seven places to enter the top 10 of the latest world rankings. They are placed ninth in the doubles rankings.

NBA India Games 2019

  • The NBA India Games 2019 will feature the Sacramento Kings and Indiana Pacers playing two pre-season games on October 4 and 5.

India win gold at Under- 12 Asian Tennis Team championship

  • India have won gold at the Under 12 Asian Tennis Team championship held in Kazakhstan. India defeated Chinese Taipei 2-1 in the summit clash to win the title.

International Hockey Federation FIH Rankings

  • The Indian team, currently ranked world No. 5 in the International Hockey Federation FIH Rankings, will be the top-ranked team taking part in the next year’s Olympic Games.

World Archery suspends AAI for defying guidelines

  • The World Archery (WA) suspended the Archery Association of India (AAI) for defying its guidelines by electing two parallel bodies, asking the federation to put its house in order by the end of this month.
  • The decision is effective from August 12 and the last event in which the archers can participate under the Indian flag is the World Archery Youth Championships in Madrid from 19th to 25th of August.

Khelo India to be held in Assam from 10th to 22nd January

  • The third edition of Khelo India will be held in Assam from 10th to 22nd of January next year. Member Secretary of Sports and Youth Welfare Committee Lakhya Konwar said that 10 thousand youths will participate in the event.

Bulgarian Junior International Championships

  • In Badminton, Indian junior shuttlers won six medals at the Bulgarian Junior International Championships which concluded in Pazardzhik, Bulgaria. The medals comprised of three gold, a silver and two bronze.

Sourabh Verma wins Hyderabad Open title

  • In Badminton, reigning national champion, Sourabh Verma clinched the Men’s Singles title in the Hyderabad Open. He beat Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew 21-13, 14-21, 21-16 in a 52-minute final clash.

Wrestling: Bajrang Punia wins gold at Tbilisi Grand Prix

  • India’s top two wrestlers continued their impressive run this season with Bajrang Punia defending won gold at Tbilisi Grand Prix and Vinesh Phogat reaching her fourth final at Medved event.

Aishwarya Pissay becomes first Indian to claim a world title in motorsports

  • Aishwarya Pissay became the first Indian to claim a world title in motorsports, annexing the FIM World Cup in the women’s category after the final round of the championship at Varpalota in Hungary.

Deepak Punia becomes India’s first junior World Champion in 18 years

  • Wrestler Deepak Punia has become India’s first junior World Champion in 18 years. He claimed a gold medal at the Junior Worlds with a win over Russia’s Alik Shebzukhov at Tallinn, Estonia.

Women’s Pro Golf Tour: maiden title for Gauri Karhade

  • Rookie Gauri Karhade, playing only her sixth event as a pro on the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour pick her first title on the circuit.

World Skills International Competition

  • A team of 48 Indian contestants will take part in World Skills International Competition at Kazan in Russia. The team will participate in 44 skills, including mobile robotics, prototype modelling, hairdressing, baking, welding and car painting at the event from 22nd to 27th of this month.

Hima Das, Mohammad Anas win gold at Athleticky Mitink Reiter event

  • Top Indian sprinters Hima Das and Mohammad Anas have won a gold each in 300m races at the Athleticky Mitink Reiter event in Czech Republic. While Hima won the gold in women’s event, Mohammad Anas claimed the yellow metal in men’s category. This was Hima’s sixth gold in 2019 in European races since last month.

Birthday for Fastest Man in the World

  • Usain St Leo Bolt was born on 21 August 1986 in Sherwood Content at Jamaica. Boltis an 11-time world champion. He holds the world records in races for 100 meters, at 9.58 seconds, and 200-meters, at 19.19 seconds, both of which he made at the 2009 Berlin World Athletics Championships

Kiren Rijiju, Baichung Bhutia flag off Delhi leg of Op-Blue Freedom

  • Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju and former India football captain Baichung Bhutia flagged off the Delhi leg of Op-Blue Freedom. This is an initiative in which a group of armed forces veterans train sports enthusiasts in survival training and self-defence. Op-Blue Freedom is a nation-wide adaptive scuba diving programme for people with disabilities as well as the able bodied.

CISF makes the nation proud by 10 Medals in World Police and Fire Games at Chengdu,China

  • The World Police and Fire Games are an Olympic-style competition with 10,000 athletes representing from 70+ countries across the world competing in 60+ sports. The World Police and Fire Games-2019 was held from 08-18 August, 2019 at Chengdu, China wherein CISF sports personnel represented India in different sporting events and won ten (10) medals.

WADA suspends India’s National Dope Testing Laboratory

  • The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has suspended the accreditation of India’s National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL) for six months in what could be a massive blow to anti-doping movement in the country with less than a year left for Tokyo Olympics.

Archery World Youth Championships

  • In Archery, the Indian team of Sukhbeer Singh, Sangampreet Singh Bisla and Tushar Phadtare clinched a bronze medal in the junior compound men’s team event in the World Youth Championships in Madrid.

World Skills Kazan 2019

  • The world’s biggest international vocational skills competition, WorldSkills Kazan 2019 opened with a grand ceremony at Kazan, Russia. The 48-member Indian team, resplendent in colourful attire, wowed spectators as they walked through the parade along with 62 other participating countries.

India bags four medals in Worldskills Kazan competition

  • The Indian team created history by winning one gold, one silver and two bronze medals at the 45th WorldSkills Kazan 2019 competition, in Russia. S Aswatha Narayana won the gold medal in water technology. Pranav Nutalapati won silver medal in web technologies. Sanjoy Pramanik and Shweta Ratanpura won one bronze medal each in Jewellery and graphic design technology.
