Today in Shimla, over 100 private buses abruptly came to a stop, causing significant disruption to travellers, particularly students and workers. The union for private bus drivers and conductors embarked on a day-long strike to reaffirm their demands, which primarily include a 50% quota in the hiring of Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) employees.
According to Akhil Gupta, Secretary of the Union,
“We have years of expertise, so the government should provide at least a 50% quota for us in HRTC recruiting.”The Joint Coordination Committee of HRTC employee has also supported their demand.
According to Khemendra Gupta, Secretary of the Joint Coordination Committee:
“If quota is granted to the drivers and conductors of private buses, HRTC would receive experienced drivers and conductors. Additionally, the government should adopt a strategy to improve working conditions, according to Khemendra Gupta, secretary of the joint coordination committee. Other demands made by the union include the provision of restrooms and the issuance of I-cards by the Department of Transportation.
