Mr. Nitin Gadkarisays is an Indian politician from Maharashtra who is the current Minister for road transport and highways in the government of India. He is also the longest serving Minister for road transport and highways currently running his tenure for over 7 years. Mr. Nitin Gadkari earlier served as the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from 2009 to 2013. The government of India in Union Budget 2021 has introduced Voluntary Vehicle Scrappage Policy to eliminate the inefficient and polluting vehicles.

According the policy, private vehicles above 20 years and commercial vehicles above 15 years will have to undergo fitness test at authorized fitness center. The Vehicle Scrapping Policy is aimed at creating an eco-system for phasing out unfit and polluting vehicles in an environmentally friendly and safe manner. “Vehicle scrapping will help phase out unfit and polluting vehicles in an environment-friendly manner,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said. Mr Nitin Gadkari launches the automobile scrapping and recycling upgrade makeover by the company of Maruti Suzuki Toyotsu India Private Limited (MSTI)at Noida today. Mr. Nitin Gadkari said the policy will help in increasing Automobile sales, provide employment, reduce import cost, generate incremental GST revenue and help to solve the global shortage of semi conductor chip.
