Implementation of Old Pension Scheme in India – Rajasthan CM Emphasis!! Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has said that the old pension scheme should be re-implemented across the country. Addressing the media in Shimla ahead of the Himachal Pradesh assembly elections, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has said that the old pension scheme (OPS) has been re-implemented for government employees in Rajasthan and it is a false claim that the implementation of the old pension scheme will increase the burden on the exchequer.
The New Pension Scheme (NPS) currently being provided to Central government employees does not provide various benefits including family pension and gratuity which were in the old pension scheme. Due to this, demands are being made to the government that should bring back the old pension scheme across India. However, some state governments including Rajasthan have re-implemented the old pension scheme for their employees.
Other governments are of the view that the reintroduction of this OPS would put a financial burden on the government. Ashok Gehlot said that now OPS is getting support from government employees in different parts of the country and if the central government refuses this, employees will suffer. However, it is to be noted that there is no progress in the central government’s action on the implementation of the old pension scheme.
