- UGC Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar stated on Sunday that the National Eligibility Test (NET) for the merged cycles of December 2021 and June 2022 would be conducted in the first or second week of June this year.
- However, the precise date of the UGC-NET exam has not yet been released, and it will be once the National Testing Agency (NTA) has finalised the dates.
- Candidates who want to apply for the UGC NET 2022 exam should go to the official UGC NET website, ugcnet.nta.nic.in, after the schedule is posted.

- On behalf of the UGC, the NTA administers the UGC NET exam, which determines whether a candidate is qualified to work as an assistant professor or junior research fellow (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges.
- Every year, the UGC-NET exam is held twice. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, however, the UGC decided to combine the exam cycles and conduct it once a year in computer-based test mode.
- CBSE administered the NET for 84 subjects in 91 cities across India until June 2018. The NTA will be conducting the UGC-NET starting in December 2018.
- In the previous cycle, the UGC-NET was conducted in 3 phases over 18 days at 837 centres in 239 cities. Out of the 671,288 candidates took the test, 43 730 were qualified as eligible to become assistant professors, and 9,127 qualified for JRF.
