New RBI Governor of India

Indian Government Appointed Shaktikanta Das as New RBI Governor of India. 

Shaktikanta Das  is a retired 1980 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Tamil Nadu cadre. He currently is RBI governor of India and earlier was member of the Fifteenth Finance Commission of India, and India’s Sherpa to G20. During his career as an IAS officer, he served in various capacities for Indian and Tamil Nadu governments, including as Economic Affairs Secretary of India, Revenue Secretary of India, Fertilizers Secretary of India.

Revenue Secretary:

Das was appointed as Union Revenue Secretary by the prime minister led-Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) in June 2014, he assumed the office of Secretary on 16 June 2014,[1] and demitted it on 31 August 2015.

Economic Affairs Secretary:

Shaktikanta Das was appointed as Union Economic Affairs Secretary by ACC in August 2016, he assumed the office of Secretary on 31 August 2016, and admitted it and simultaneously superannuated from service on 28 May 2017, after being given a three-month extension by the government.

During his tenure as Union Economic Affairs Secretary, Das was widely regarded as one of the most powerful people in India.

Post Retirement:

Post his retirement from the IAS, Das was appointed as a member of the Fifteenth Finance Commission. In addition, he was appointed as India’s Sherpa to the G-20.
