Railways to install CCTV cameras in over 7,000 train coaches by 2021

  • The railways has set a target to install CCTV cameras in more than 7,000 coaches of mainline passenger trains by March 2021. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said CCTV cameras have already been installed in coaches of premium, mail, express and suburban trains.

 Centre constitutes chief ministers’ panel for agriculture reforms

  • Centre has constituted a high powered committee of Chief Ministers of several states for the transformation of Indian Agriculture. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will be the convenor of the committee, while the chief ministers of Karnataka, Haryana, Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have been included as members.
  • Union Agriculture, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister will also be a member of the committee. Besides, NITI Aayog member Ramesh Chand has been named the Member Secretary.

RRB recruitment exams to be conducted in 13 regional languages

  • The government announced that recruitment examination of Regional Rural Banks, RRBs will be conducted in 13 regional languages in addition to English and Hindi. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the examination of direct recruitment of Scale-1 officers and Office Assistant in RRBs will be conducted in regional languages too. The regional languages are Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malyalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

Government to raise health services expenditure to 2.5% of GDP by 2025

  • Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said government has set a target to raise health services expenditure to 2.5 per cent of the country’s GDP by 2025. In reply to a question in Rajya Sabha, Dr Harsh Vardhan said, the public expenditure on health services is continuously increasing.

Nagaland set to begin its variant of NRC from July 10

  • Nagaland has decided to start a variant of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) that neighbouring Assam is updating. The exercise for collecting information on locals and non-locals has a 60-day deadline
  • Nagaland’s Home Commissioner R. Ramakrishnan issued a notification for setting up of the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) aimed at preparing a master list of all indigenous peoples and checking the issuance of fake indigenous inhabitant certificates.

Tripura gets Rs. 358 crore from Centre for road projects

  • The Centre has sanctioned an additional amount of Rs. 358 crore for construction of new roads in rural areas of Tripura. This would help the State government to complete the projects and infrastructure developmental works that were left unfinished in the State.

UP government launches toll-free CM helpline 1076

  • In Uttar Pradesh, the State government today launched a toll-free Chief Minister helpline 1076 that will enable people from across the state to register their complaints and will ensure a time-bound action on the complaints also

38th WORLD UNESCO World HERITAGE SITE as Pink City Jaipur 

  • In yet another landmark achievement, India’s nomination of the Jaipur City, Rajasthan got inscribed on the World Heritage List of UNESCO during the 43rd Session of the World Heritage Committee held at Baku, Azerbaijan.
  • The nomination of Jaipur City has successfully been done by complying with the various UNESCO guidelines of 2017. With Successful inscription of Jaipur City, India has 38 world heritage sites, that include 30 Cultural properties, 7 Natural properties and 1 mixed site.

ICMR launches forum to improve data collection and use

  • The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)’s National Institute for Medical Statistics (ICMR-NIMS), in partnership with Population Council, launched the National Data Quality Forum (NDQF).

PCI invites entries for National Awards for Excellence in Journalism, 2019

  • Press Council of India has invited entries for National Awards for Excellence in Journalism, 2019. The Awards, carrying a cash prize and citation, will be given in eight categories. The Awards have been instituted to recognize outstanding contribution of journalists/ photo journalists of Indian nationality in print journalism. They are given on the occasion of National Press Day on November 16.

Government to invest 50 lakh crore rupees in railways by 2030

  • Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has said that the government is eyeing investment of 50 lakh crore in railways by the year 2030 to make it the best in the world. Mr Goyal announced that the entire Konkan Railway route from Mumbai to Mangaluru via Goa would be electrified at the cost of 11,000 crore rupees.

Central govt going to set-up three Sports Centre of Excellence in Itanagar

  • Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju has informed that central government is going to set-up three Sports Centre of Excellence in Itanagar very soon. Mr. Rijiju said that the three centre of excellence will be for Martial Arts, Weight Lifting and Boxing.

RPF launched “Operation Thirst”

  • To curb the menace of unauthorized PDW (PACKAGED DRINKING WATER) in Railway premises, an all India drive named “Operation Thirst” was launched on 08th & 09th July 2019 on the direction of DG/RPF, Railway Board, New Delhi where all the Zonal Principal Chief Security Commissioners (PCSC) were asked to crackdown these unauthorised activities. Almost all major stations over Indian Railway were covered during this operation.

Fertiliser subsidy sees a hike of around Rs 10,000 crore in Union Budget

  • Fertilizer Subsidy allocation has seen a hike of around 10,000 crore rupees in the Union Budget. Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister, DV Sadananda Gowda said, the increased allocation towards the Fertilizer Subsidy would further help in increasing the efficiency of subsidy transfers to the farmers through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Parliament adopts resolution levying 200% duty on Pakistani goods

  • Parliament has adopted a statutory resolution for levying 200 per cent duty on all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan. The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha approved the amendment in the first schedule of the Custom Tariff Act in this regard. India had notified the basic custom duty to 200 per cent on all goods exported from Pakistan with effect from 16th of February this year.

Centre decides to extend ESI Act to entire country by 2022

  • Government has decided to extend the ESI Act to the entire country by 2022. Labour and Employment Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar said out of the total 722 districts, the ESI scheme has been extended to 541 districts.
  • He said under the ESIC 2.0 programme, ESI scheme was extended in newly implemented areas. The Minister informed the House that around 3 crores 60 lakh employees across the country are likely to be benefited by the measure.

IFFI’s Golden Jubilee Edition to be held from Nov 20 till 28 in Goa

  • The Golden Jubilee Edition of International Film Festival of India, IFFI will be held from 20th Nov till 28th November 2019 in Panaji, Goa. Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar gave this information after the steering committee meeting of IFFI 2019 in Panaji and he also said that students from FTII and Satyajit Ray Institute of India and students from some other film institutes will be a part of it to gain some hands on experience.

CPWD to erect water conservation structures

  • The Central Public Works Department will erect water conservation structures, including rainwater harvesting systems, in 136 residential areas across the country. Speaking at a function to mark 165th foundation day of the CPWD, Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary Durga Shanker Mishra said, the agency has a target of erecting water conservation structures in 100 colonies under the 100-day agenda.

Fourth anniversary of Skill India Mission

  • The fourth anniversary of the Skill India Mission is being observed on July 15,2019. Several functions are being organised across the country to mark the occasion. National Skill Development Mission also known as Skill India Mission was launched on this day in 2015. Nearly One Crore youth are being presently imparted skills training annually under the mission.

Fresh tiger census likely to be out on July 29

  • The much-awaited tiger census is likely to be released on July 29, Global Tiger Day. As part of an agreement in 2010 among these countries, there is a goal to double the global tiger count by 2022.

National Digital Health Blueprint report

  • Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare released the National Digital Health Blueprint (NDHB) report in the public domain for inputs from various stakeholders.
  • The vision of NDHB is to create a National Digital Health Eco-system that supports Universal Health Coverage in an efficient, accessible, inclusive, affordable, timely and safe manner, through provision of a wide-range of data, information and infrastructure services, duly leveraging open, interoperable, standards-based digital systems, and ensuring the security, confidentiality and privacy of health-related personal information.

Defence Minister approves increase in number of awards given to NCC cadets:

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the increase in the number of awards given to the cadets of National Cadet Corps (NCC) from the existing 143 to 243 and cash incentives in various categories.

Health Ministry to launch a Jan Jagrukta Abhiyaan

  • Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is all set to launch a special campaign in Delhi to sensitize and mobilise the community on measures for prevention and control of Vector Borne Diseases (VBDs) like Malaria, Dengue and Chikungunya.
  • The three –day campaign will start from 17th July, 2019. Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare stated that this three-day campaign is aimed at making the community a partner for checking vector/mosquito breeding across Delhi.

10th Jagran Film Festival

  • Union Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar inaugurated the 10th Jagran Film Festival in an event held at Siri Fort Auditorium in New Delhi on 18th July. He highlighted the importance and impact of cinema on life of people and termed that it is a medium which connects people. He recalled the historical development of cinema in India and the growing impact of Indian cinema as a transporter of India’s soft power.

Fieldwork of 7th Economic Census to be launched in Tripura

  • The fieldwork of 7th EC is being launched in the States of Tripura on 29th July 2019, and in Puducherry soon after. The fieldwork in other State/ UTs will be launched in August/ September, 2019.

Piyush Goyal to launch Global Innovation Index

  • Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will launch the Global Innovation Index (GII) in New Delhi. An official release said, this is for the first time that the GII is being launched in an emerging economy, the GII probes and quantifies the state of national innovation ecosystems, including their strengths and weaknesses.

Fourth cycle of All India Tiger Estimation – 2018

  • The Tiger Estimation exercise is believed to be the world’s largest wildlife survey effort in terms of coverage, intensity of sampling and quantum of camera trapping. India conducts the All India Tiger Estimation every four years.  Three cycles of the estimation have already been completed in 2006, 2010 and 2014.

New e-challan system, e-payment gateway launched for use of Delhi Traffic Police

  • Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik launched the new e-challan system and the e-payment gateway for the use of Delhi Traffic Police.
  • The E-challan devices are enabled with active GPS where the challaning officer and the violator, both can be logged and tracked to a particular geo-location. This is an important tool for evidence to establish the credibility of the prosecution. The payment gateway will help the citizens with the flexibility to login securely at their convenience and settle the pending violation notices with proof of payment.

Bridge Over Brahmaputra to Link Dhubri in Assam with Phulbari in Meghalaya

  • The work of construction of four-lane bridge including approaches over River Brahmaputra between Dhubri on North Bank in Assam and Phulbari on South Bank in Meghalaya is being taken up with loan assistance from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The estimated cost of this work is Rs. 4997.04 crore.

Income Tax Department to celebrate Aaykar Diwas 2019

  • The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and all field offices will be observing and celebrating the 159th Income Tax Day i.e. AaykarDiwas on 24th July, 2019. It was on 24th July, 1860 that Income Tax was introduced for the first time in India by Sir James Wilson to compensate for the losses incurred by the British regime during the first war of independence against British Rule. This is why 24th July is observed as the Income Tax Day.

Exhibition of ‘Monuments of Valour & Victory Homage to Kargil Warriors’

  • Union Culture Minister (IC) Shri Prahlad Singh Patel Inaugurated an Exhibition of ‘Monuments of Valour & Victory Homage to Kargil Warriors’on the 20th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Divastoday in New Delhi. The Exhibition was organized by National Monuments Authority of Ministry of Culture.

Suspected meteorite found in Bihar

  • A celestial object, weighing over 10 kilograms and having magnetic properties, was on July 24 brought to a museum in Patna on the instruction of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, two days after it was discovered in Bihar’s Madhubani district.

Agri-Business Incubation Centre started in Chhattisgarh

  • An Agri Business Incubation Centre has started in Chhattisgarh. The centre has been set up by the Union Agriculture Ministry in Indira Gandhi Agriculture University of Raipur. The objective of the scheme is to make farming a remunerative economic activity by strengthening farmer’s effort, risk mitigation and promoting agribusiness entrepreneurship.

Meghalaya becomes 1st state to ensure water conservation

  • Meghalaya became the first state in India to ensure the conservation of water and have own water policy following a nod given by the State Cabinet. The objective of the policy is to recognize water resources as a common pool resource, to provide safe and hygienic water for drinking, domestic and sanitation and livelihood development to all residents of the state.

ADB sanctions about Rs 2000 Cr for power projects in Tripura

  • Asian Development Bank has sanctioned 1,925 crore rupees project for upgradation of power generation and distribution in Tripura. The project has been sanctioned for upgrading capacity of Rokhia Project and modernising Gumti Hydro Electric Project.
