Meta Fined $276 Million for Scraped Data from Facebook – Here are the Details!! European watchdog fines Meta $276 million after user data ‘scraped’ from leading social network Facebook leaked online. Specifically, more than 533 million users’ information is said to have been leaked.
Earlier, the DPC investigated whether Facebook complied with Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) laws after the data scrape was revealed. Meanwhile, Ireland’s Data Protection Authority said Meta failed to protect users’ data in the investigation. Meta said the data was “scraped” using tools designed to locate other people by phone numbers using data, search, and contact features.

This is not the first time such incidents are happening in Meta. It is the third fine imposed on Meta this year. Meanwhile, the Irish watchdog has already fined Meta-owned Instagram and WhatsApp for scarping users’ data protection.
