  • The Container Corporation of India (Concor) and the Krishnapatnam port launched a direct container rail service to boost containerised exports and imports between Central India and China, Korea, Japan and South East Asia.

Tamilnadu

Elite unit for Forest Department

  • The Tamil Nadu government is planning to set up an elite force in the Forest department and provide it with high-tech training to tackle situations like kidnappings, land encroachments, forest fires and man-animal conflicts.
  • The Forest Department is also planning to implement a ‘beehive’ concept to prevent man-elephant conflicts in the Coimbatore region.

Restoration of Pallikaranai marsh to continue till 2023

  • Restoration activities at the Pallikaranai marshland will continue till 2023 at a cost of Rs.165.68 crore under the National Adaptation Fund for Climate Change.
  • The government also plans to continue its Massive Tree Planting programme by planting 70 lakh seedlings at 7,000 acres of degraded forests with an outlay of Rs.22.46 crore.

ICRISAT, KeyGene ink research partnership

  • Netherlands-based agricultural biotech company KeyGene and not–for-profit scientific research organisation, International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) for research and co-development on legumes and cereals.

  • After 82 years, New English School in Pune has opened its doors to girls.

Moody’s trims GDP growth forecast for 2018 to 7.3%

  • International agency Moody’s Investor Services cut India’s growth forecast to 7.3 per cent for calendar year 2018.
  • However, it has maintained the estimate for 2019 at 7.5 per cent.

  • Government of India, along with the Centre for WTO Studies, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade and the South Centre (an inter-governmental organisation based in Geneva), are organising an International Conference on TRIPS- CBD Linkage in Geneva on 7-8 June 2018.

India – Nepal joint battalion Level Exercise SURYA KIRAN-XIII

  • The 13th edition of bilateral annual military Exercise SURYA KIRAN, between India and Nepal Army commenced today at Pithoragarh.
  • The aim of exercise is joint training of troops in counter insurgency/ counter terrorism operations in both jungle & mountainous terrain and disaster management.
